It's too early to call anything this season for me to completely give up hope. I think that DL messed up early on and we are paying for it now as well. With the NTC keeping ****ty players here and expensive players that don't produce, there wasn't much he could sling on this deadline.
What he does in the off season will make him or break him. We are sellers this season but in the off season he NEEDS to make some big moves. Top 6 veteran forward and a true #1 goaltender. We need to lay off all the potential talent and get some proven talent in LA if we want to make it anywhere. The youngsters are playing a good individual game but the team game is far from perfect. Coaching needs to step up.
For those saying we are doing better than last season, get this in your head...it doesn't matter. Wins only matter according to what the rest of the conference is doing. We can have 40x the amount of points next season but if the other teams have more, we're screwed. With Phoenix stepping up their game and the rest of our division tearing it up, next season won't be an easy one without some major work.

Scenario 1:
- The Kings keep winning at the same clip they have all year for the remainder of the season.
- Tampa Bay, Florida, Atlanta and Toronto don't win another game this season and the Kings finish 5th worst. "Better" than last year, right?
Scenario 2:
- The Kings keep winning at the same clip they have all year for the remainder of the season.
- Tampa Bay, Florida, Atlanta and Toronto win all their remaining games and the kings finish in 30th place. "Worse" than last year, right?

.... Now supposedly, all this losing is supposed to turn into Stanley Cup dominance forevermore and all's well that ends well, and DL will be the greatest GM who ever lived. ....
The only jabroni's around here are the people who think Gary Bettman shut down the league for a whole year so that he could get an economic system that would allow any one particular team an extended period of excellence .... when he's got to sell tickets in 30 (soon to be 32) cities, with merely one Stanley Cup to hand out per season.

I agree with you. I'm just saying comparing wins to last year doesn't make a difference because we are competing with the rest of the league. Not with ourselves from last year. Next season some teams may do better and some may do worse. There is never a constant in team ranking so comparing wins or points to a previous season is pointless.
The Kings are losers, have always been losers, and will always be losers.
Anyone who maintains any hope that things will ever get better for us is a jabroni.
Anyone who wants to give current management more than 1.75 seasons to play out their plan is a jabroni.
This is so tired... if you want to let your frustrations out, go right ahead, this is a very frustrating team to be a fan of. But all of this talk about Kool-Aid drinking and DL-ass kissing isn't fair.
What is the problem with having some cautious hope?
Aren't we SUPPOSED to hope the team will get better? Aren't we SUPPOSED to hope we are going in the right direction?
Trying to look at things positively is a perfectly fair practice that in my opinion gets way too much flak around here. We may very well be doomed to suck for 40 more years; but I for one will remain hopeful. What's the point of being a fan without hope?
Where's that karma thing, I completely agree. It seems to be "trendy" to be a pessimist around here.
I am confused....you bitch about how useless guys like Thornton are and then say keeping this crap is actually going to improve our chances of winning from here on out?
I would like to know why L.A. has been considered a Free Agent boneyard?
For better or for worse we did attract 5 free agents this past summer.
Players that have played with us before have desired to come back and play for us again.
We have had star calibre players in Palffy (via trade for him) and Demitra, and have an excellent group of youth to build around right now.
The only thing that people were really anticipating to happen this past trade deadline was to move Blake & Thornton. Their NTC's did not allow that to happen, but it isn't as if we've given everyone an NTC.
Just because we did not want to handicap ourselves by breaking the bank to bid for Drury/Gomez/or Briere we are now crippled in landing free agents? What exactly have they done for their teams besides suck? We acquired 5 free agents at reasonable prices. The experiment has not gone as planned, but we have also acquired assets. I still cannot consider Calder or Preissing busts. Handzus has been a disappointment to me, but I have watched him play for many years and expect him to rebound. At least we don't bring in a free agent, he does poorly for 4 months, and we trade him away at the deadline for next to nothing and then he explodes in his next location.
So just ask yourself this... who would you rather have in the GM box right now DL or DT?
We may not have hit the jackpot at the deadline, but we sure as hell didn't screw up "the plan" either.
If you take a look at Pittsburgh, they may have just seriously screwed themselves over acquiring Hossa and the little talked about Dupuis (whom I think is a hell of a role player and can produce). They will have a great team for a couple months, but will it last? It cost them a 1st round pick, last year's 1st round pick, and a top 6 forward off their current roster.
I am GLAD DL didn't do something stupid like that!!! DT would have.
