10-25

No Bernier, which means he's still considered top 10!

Meanwhile, the man we'll continue to compare Hickey against:

Quote:
12. Karl Alzner, D - Washington Capitals
Height: 6'2, Weight: 210

There are many highly respected defensemen in the CHL, but it would be tough to find one that holds the same status as Washington Capitals prospect Karl Alzner. It is one of the reasons he was named captain of Team Canada for the 2008 World Junior Championship and also why he wears the "C" with the Calgary Hitmen. Outgoing and humble as can be, Alzner's off-ice personality can translate onto the ice where he is unselfish and exudes leadership. At his size, Alzner is an imposing defender at the junior level and plays a strong two-way game. His numbers dipped a bit this year but most would chalk that up to an incredibly deep Hitmen line-up that does not rely as heavily on their top blueliner as it may have last season.

Sounds like both Alzner and Hickey are on their way to solid NHL careers. Both are noted for their leadership qualities and two way play. Hickey will probably have more offensive production and Alzner will probably be a better shut down defender who you want protecting a lead late in the game.

Thankfully this draft is chalk full of good defense prospects that can potentially fill that role. I think that Doughty, Schenn, Bogosion, Myers and Teubert can all make us forget about what could have been if we had taken Alzner. Possibly Yann Sauve or Tyler Cuma as well.

I think after all is said and done Hickey will outplay Alzner by a fair margin and the top3 d-men (Doughty, Bogosian, Pietrangelo) in the 2008 draft will turn out also to be better than Alzner. Just a gut feeling.......

It would be cool if Bernier were top 10 - however he was #22 at the start of the year and he has faced some adversity. We'll see where they have him.

I think if Boyle has a good playoff he might make the lower end of next years list.

Did you watch the Drew Doughty draft video RinkRat posted?

Did you not hear the comment that whomever gets Doughty will be able to build a franchise around him?

Do you feel like heaving now?

Bernier is almost assuredly in the top 10 based on the way HF makes this list. The only question is how high in the top 9.
