Said Kings assistant general manager Ron Hextall: "He felt a little more comfortable [tonight] and he developed of a swagger in his body language. He's got a knack for playing big."
"We saw him last year at the World Championships. We had him identified before that, and then we watched him there. We had a hole on our reserve list in that age group, so we took a shot at him," said Kings goaltending coach Ron Hextall, who played in the NHL for 13 seasons.
"His athleticism and quickness are the best aspects of his game, as well as his lateral movement. He's not the biggest guy, so he's got to use his athletic ability. Obviously, this gives us a chance to look at him and gives him a chance to prove something. But I can't imagine him locking up a spot for next season in these last 14 games."

don't they put an emphasis on training camp performance? you gotta put some pressure on the kid if he's already started to develop a swagger. Thats not to say he wont be up next year but I would expect him as backup at minimum and hopefully they stop their love affair with labs if he continues with this performance
I like the swagger. He made a few saves last night that were beyond the capability of any goalie the Kings have played regularly in years. His glove is awesome. I want to see why he struggled a bit in Manchester. Did his head get in the way?

My guess, not having seen a minute of his play in Manchester, is that the style played in the lower NA leagues is pretty different from the European game that he's used to. Lots of scrambly play in front of him, for a kid who is used to the precision of the Euro game, might be tough to adjust to.
Jim Fox alluded to the differences during the telecast, noting that in NA leagues guys get over the blueline and shoot the puck. That just doesn't happen in the Euro leagues, and was another adjustment Erserg had to make.

He looked phenomenal in the scrambles last night. His glove is amazing through traffic. I don't remember a Kings goalie who could make adjustment in his glove that fast.
