If Calgary Flames center Daymond Langkow becomes a free agent this summer, the Los Angeles Kings may want consider signing him. For now, they should make sure they have a man on him.
Langkow will look to continue his offensive mastery of the Kings when the Flames visit Los Angeles on Friday, seeking their seventh straight win in the series and third victory in a row overall.
Langkow has powered a Flames' offensive outburst against Los Angeles (24-32-3) this season. In three wins over the Kings, Calgary (29-20-8) has scored 16 goals, including six in both of the last two victories.
Langkow has at least two goals in all three games, totaling seven - nearly a third of his 22 goals on the season. He recorded his first hat trick in nearly five years in the Flames' 6-1 win over the Kings on Jan. 18.
The Flames also won their final three games against Los Angeles last season, scoring 15 goals in those contests. Over the six-game run against the Kings, Calgary has outscored Los Angeles 31-16, with Langkow recording nine of those goals and teammate Jarome Iginla totaling 11 assists.
Langkow, who can become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, scored in Calgary's 4-3 overtime win at San Jose on Tuesday, but it was Iginla who won it in the extra period.
The Flames managed just 18 shots - their lowest total since November - and allowed a season-high 43, but made the most of their opportunities and got 40 saves from Miikka Kiprusoff to salvage their third win in four games.
In their last seven games, the Flames have scored at least four goals in their four wins, while scoring one or none in the three losses.
They may need another big night from Langkow on Friday, considering they've been shut out in two of their last four road games and have just seven goals in their last five road contests. They'll be playing the second game of a five-game trip.
The Kings return home for the first time since before the All-Star break after going 4-3-1 on an eight-game trip, a franchise record for a trip of that length, that resulted from the Grammy Awards being held at Staples Center.
They closed the road swing with a 4-2 loss to St. Louis on Tuesday. Los Angeles got goals from Alexander Frolov, who had four goals and five assists on the trip, and Dustin Brown, who ended a seven-game goal drought with his 25th tally of the season.
The Blues, though, scored twice in the third period to break a 2-all tie en route to the victory. The Kings, despite their recent improved play - they're 9-5-1 in their last 15 - still have the fewest points in the NHL.
Crawford's team has won three of its last four home games, but hasn't beaten Calgary since a 3-1 victory at Los Angeles on Nov. 25, 2006.
The Kings have a home record of 12-16-1, and their last 10 games is a record of 5-4-1.
The Flames have a road record of 14-10-1, and their last 10 games is a record of 7-3-0.
The Kings are in Glendale (Arizona) on Saturday night at Jobing.com Arena against the Phoenix Coyotes.
"We showed some immaturity tonight, I think," coach Marc Crawford said. "It looked as though we seemed to be a little bit satisfied."
"We have tomorrow off," goalie Jason LaBarbera said. "So it'll be nice just to hang out at home and spend time with our families."
"He's not going to play this weekend, at least not the first part of it,'' Crawford said. So it sounds like Blake is definitely out for Friday and likely out for Saturday. "He feels pretty good and I don't imagine it's going to be much longer."

"We want to make sure those guys are playing,'' Crawford said. "So I think that’s probably the reason they went down. We thought we had a few guys closer to being able to play. Willsie is able to play. Thornton, who had been injured, looked like he was ready to play but tried today and wasn’t ready.''
