Cammy, dallas first, and maybe a 4th? for
A top 5 pick if schenn is still available and a 3rd?
Of course the package all depends
If or when he gets traded, if the return is NOT a top 2 d-man, I riot. This team does NOT need another forward, with what they have waiting in the wings, and what is on the team right now, scoring is not the problem.
No picks and/or prospects. They need to either find someone to replace his production or get 1-2 dman.
you gotta understand too though, that he may not be able to produce the return you would like from some teams and others may just pull any sort of offer off the table because Mike has just become a rental.
so if their intention becomes moving him, they have a couple of ways (or returns) that are most likely, and the best time would be at the Entry-Draft.
1. Mike and one or two picks goes for a roster player.
- the Kings become the Minnesota Wild in the Demitra deal, essentially
2. Mike goes for a prospect and a chance to move up in the draft.
- possibly a better scenario, and with the addition of Dallas' pick (say), the Kings could potentially make Mike and the Toronto Maple Leafs very happy and Dean gets two top-five picks
basically you have to weigh every option and listen to every offer before making a decision.

I see defensive needs being filled through FA signings this coming offseason...
maybe stuart comes back when he finds that nobody's going to give him multiple years at 3.5M per
maybe we take a run at rozsival
maybe we try to pick up a ron hainsey for around 1.5M
maybe matt walker decides he's tired of andy murray and comes out for 0.8M
Sure, DL wants to build from Goalie -> D -> C -> Wingers, but that doesn't mean he should blow up the forwards if they're already set just to get a D-man. The team could very easily roll three lines capable of scoring next year. Easily.
The RFA's we'd like more than a Suter are Pitkanen or Bouwmeester or Gleason or Mark Stuart...Do we offer sheet them and not worry about the lost picks because of the surplus (assuming that we send some of those picks forward to 09 or 10), or do we try to trade for their rights without dumping any roster players? Edmonton and Florida need help scoring, Carolina does not, so probably scratch Gleason. Boston has been doing it with smoke and mirrors and would love any young winger given the ticking of the Glen Murray clock...but if we were going to nab one of their youngsters, I'd rather have LW Milan Lucic than Stuart. So that leaves Pitkanen and Bouwmeester. You think Edmonton wouldn't love a package of picks to make up for their depleted supply, especially in 08 and 09?
I don't think it'll be necessary to trade Cammy to get the D-man we want. We can either use those extra picks to trade up and get a second top-5 pick or use them to get someone that's already NHL-ready. Think Boston would drop ~10 slots and take the Dallas 1st rounder instead for an extra pick, say, our 3d? Bingo, there's a mid-teens first-round pick for us. That might be valuable to Edmonton, who feels like they're missing the big 08 party, and that invitation comes packaged with our 2d for Pitkanen. So effectively, we're dishing a Grachev and maybe a Colborne to EDM and maybe some other kid from ****water Mass to Boston for Pitkanen. Meanwhile, we still have a top-NINE forward corps at 26 and younger.
Compare that with trading Cammy and the Dallas 1st to Edm straight up for Pitkanen...we save our 2d and a 3d...so maybe we get Colborne and aforementioned M******* to hang out in Manchester while other wingers duke it out for Cammy's spot. Economically, a comparable plan, but...Cammy, healthy, is a known quantity, and I don't see any reason to screw with that.
the point is, if i can concoct that BS strategy in the time it takes to type a post, you damn well better believe that DL can do something better in 4 months...
Remember almost two years ago when there was a collective gasp in the crowd on draft day?
Gary Bettman: The Minnesota Wild trade the 17th overall pick AND Patrick O'Sullivan to the Los Angeles Kings for Pavol Demitra.
It's not completely out of the realm of possibilities that the Kings trade Cammalleri and the Dallas pick for a first liner/first pairing d-man Lombardi thinks will make an impact.
I think over the next 20 games, you bring up some of the young d-men and give them a 5 game audition. Bring up Piskula, Petiot, Bagnall, and Hersley, at different times of course. Give them 5 games each, and then determine through their play what the team needs to acquire in the off-season. If they show promise and 1 or 2 can step in next year and play night in and night out, then it gives you a good indication of what you will need the following year.
Cammy needs to get healthy, put up some big numbers and be the player he was at the start of the season before we even THINK of trading him. His value is at an all-time LOW right now, so NOT moving him at the trading deadline was very smart.
If he really doesn't fit into DL's plans, then you figure when he is back on pace, you have to be able to net a top 2 Dman for him, with the numbers Mike can put up. There are not a lot of guys in the world who put up Mike's numbers.

And that doesn't figure to change before July 1st, even if he goes on a tear in the last quarter of the season.
Is it true that you can't negotiate an extension with Cammaleri until after July 1? And the 2008 draft is in June? That adds a bit of a dliemna to the situation.
Therefore if you want to trade Cammaleri at the draft you haven't had a chance to negotiate an extension. If you wait to try to negotiate with him you lose the chance to package the picks withthe player to fill a need. Catch-22 if you ask me.
If you wait until next trade deadline, MC could tank, be injured or he could be the league leading goal scorer and you are in 6th place in the playoffs a few points out of home ice advantage for the first round. How do you trade him then?
How does Buffalo feel today after losing their top d man?
Other than the difference in the numbers at the arbitration hearing what proof is there that MC wants the moon in his next contract and/or that he wants out of LA? I haven't read everything on the subject but I think some of us are reading into the situation and making assumptions.
That said, the logic behind using MC as a valuable chip to fill one of the identified needs on the NHL roster makes sense to me. However, I think that we should be careful not to put the cart before the horse in this matter.
