About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Am I the only one who is sick and tired of hearing about how we're going to be good in "the future"?
Honestly, who gives a **** about
Am I the only one who is sick and tired of hearing about how we're going to be good in "the future"?
Honestly, who gives a **** about what's to come, why cant we be good NOW? All this sugar coating and focusing on "next year" is getting more washed up than that greedy prick Rob Blake himself, which is a whole nother story. Rob simply doesnt want to be traded because he'd rather sit on his couch and count his 12 mil than work a couple of extra months and possibly win a cup. If that doesn't show this guys lack of desire to win i dont know what the **** does.
So [insert LGK users name here] is excited we have a **** load of picks coming up in this years draft. wooptee ****ing doo. we'll maybe be good in 5 years if all of these picks end up working out! well what happens for the kings fan who passes away this year and/or who doesnt have 5 years to live? what happens to the guy who is going to have to relocate for a job in 2-3 years? is mgmt just gonna tell em "sorry guys, seems like our timing just didnt quite workout with yours"??? ive been a fan for too long, a full STH for 2 seasons now, and im sick of it. im sick of the losing, but im even more sick of the excuses. nick nickson occassionally admits it, and i can even quote him saying "we HAVE to be better next year". well define "better", because im pretty sure i heard the same **** last year and to say we're better this year because we have a few more points than we did last season is BULL! and whats gonna happen next year when we're not better? is everyone still going to say how DL is still new and "rebuilding" (whatever the **** that means) takes time????
so i guess it all goes back to "we're young and we have a lot of picks" WOOOOHOO! but unless those picks come with a GUARANTEE that one day we'll be an elite team, i could care less.
flame away, and make sure you mention the 420 thing, cause thats totally relevant...
Even though your rant doesn't really deserve a reply, I'll bite and explain why we suck.
Before DL got here, we had no veteran players worth anything at all. Pavol Demitra was the only one really. We had no elite players, thus no current players to trade.
We also really had no one good in the minors. We did have players like Kopi, Cammy, Brown, Fro and Vis, but they were all core players and couldn't be traded.
On top of all this, we had no draft picks. We had traded them all away. So, DL comes in and has no superstars to trade, no blue chip prospects to trade and no draft picks to trade. How do you take a team like that and make them win instantly? You don't.
We traded our best player at the time, Demitra, and got back O'Sully who is kicking ass and much, much younger. We trade and get JMFJ who is a top 4 defenseman at 20 years old. We stockpiled picks. We got a ton of great prospects. If you haven't noticed, Purcell, Moulson, Harrold, Petiot, Boyle, etc are all looking NHL bound next year. We have Bernier, who every hockey professional on the planet insist is the next great goalie coming to the NHL.
When your team sucks, there are no assets to trade to get better. You have to draft your way to being better. We're doing that. Now we have players worth trading, we have draft picks worth trading and we have an actual core team that we can add some pieces to to improve. If you can't see the difference between the overall organization now vs 3 years ago, you should stop watching hockey now.
we'll maybe be good in 5 years if all of these picks end up working out! well what happens for the kings fan who passes away this year and/or who doesnt have 5 years to live? ...
Dean was given a team without any defensemen under Lubo's age worth anything. It took him a full year to add infrastructure of front office personnel, scouts, and revamp Manchester, which had very few NHL prospects a year ago.
Now, 20 months into the job, he's added Johnson, O'Sullivan, via trades and some decent vets. For the first time ever, the Kings are DEVELOPING players at the AHL level. A few years ago, they had Cammalleri and Brown down there, but that was basically during the lockout year.
Look at how many players in Manchester can actually play in the NHL, or are on the path to the NHL:
Boyle, Purcell, Moulson, Harrold, Tukonen, Meckler, Lewis, and a decent chance: B.Murray, Piskula, Hersley, Bagnall, Petiot, Cliche...(not all these were Lombard's doing - but most were)
How many NHL teams have a better or deeper crop of forwards under 25 years of age than the Kings?
NONE, except you may argue Pittsburgh, although I don't think they're quite this deep.
With kids like Hickey, Bernier, Zatkoff, Simmonds and Moller on the way, things do look good for the future...the NEAR future. The Kings are also a virtual lock to get one of: Stamkos, Doughty, Schenn, Pietrangelo or Bogosian.
The future you feel pessimistic and impatient about is a lot better and more real than you know.
What would apparently appease you, (as in the past) would be to add a Palffy, Demitra, or Allison, to make this team better now; maybe get into the playoffs. DL is building this with quality, depth, and with a development system that will make the Kings the team you and all others here have clamored for...some of us for 3 decades.
__________________ Don't fire Crawford YET. If we fire him, we may get a coach that could elevate this team to 20th overall in the league...and we'd be screwed in the draft again. Let's take full advantage of Crawford's ability to get us Stamkos!!

I hear what you are saying, and I really do feel your pain. BUT, there is a HUGE difference between "wait 'til next year" and "we are going to be a powerhouse in the future".
We have ALWAYS been a "wait 'til next year" team and have NEVER really had a "future" to be excited about until now. Don't give up now!
