Hi Scott, I was wondering if you used a team's record when that player is absent from the roster to help determine their player ranking? I'm guessing you don't since not all players miss considerable time during a season which would be an unfair measure. And of course if two players are out at the same time, how do you determine which one has the most absentee impact. And if you don't put any consideration into the absentee record, then your ranking algorithm is certainly being vindicated with Ottawa's record sans Alfreddson and his being ranked #5 overall on your list. - Shane
Shane, I don't use a team's absentee record as part of the player rankings and the reasons you've already stated essentially cover it. However, as a matter of satisfying curiousity, here are some of the absentee records of the league's best players this season (through Sunday, February 17):
Detroit is 6-1 without Henrik Zetterberg
Ottawa is 4-8 without Dany Heatley
Ottawa is 1-6 without Daniel Alfredsson
Pittsburgh is 7-4-2 without Sidney Crosby
Ottawa is 5-1 without Jason Spezza
Minnesota is 1-4 without Marian Gaborik
Colorado is 5-6-2 without Paul Stastny
Phoenix is 1-3-2 without Radim Vrbata
Philadelphia is 10-4-1 without Joffrey Lupul
Anaheim is 6-8-3 without Mathieu Schneider
Dallas is 11-5-1 without Sergei Zubov
Detroit is 7-5-1 without Niklas Kronwall
Buffalo is 4-7-1 without Jaroslav Spacek
Chicago is 6-10-2 without Jonathan Toews
Edmonton is 4-3 without Shawn Horcoff Los Angeles is 4-6-1 without Alexander Frolov
New Jersey is 8-8-2 without Jamie Langenbrunner
Carolina is 7-8-1 without Matt Cullen
Carolina is 12-12-1 without Justin Williams
Colorado is 17-15-4 without Joe Sakic
N.Y. Rangers are 4-4-1 without Brendan Shanahan
Tampa Bay is 20-24-5 without Dan Boyle
Minnesota is 14-10 without Mikko Koivu
You can draw your own conclusions from those results, but some are interesting nonetheless. - SC
Thought it was interesting he used Fro as the example instead of Cammy (and not because i think Cammy is the better player but because most people outside of LA do)

Whenever I see a thread with the word FRO in it, I think of my next bike! It's called an Intense SOCOM FRO ~For Race Only. I've got 1/2 of it paid for and within a month she will be mine! Sorry about the thread hijack, I just wanted to share. Carry on....
