The beauty of taking a gamble on brunnstrom is it only cost you money...i would rather see DL offer brunnstrom 2 million a year then to over bid for someone like hossa or jagr. With the average age of our young stars being aroun 23, which is what brunnstrom is, he might gel nicely with our young stars and be another piece to our budding contender. We gave Clouts 3.5 million...iand with the money we will save from buying him out we can use that cap space to lure brunnstrom over to our camp. Plus i would love to see DL grab the best young unresticted free agent two years in a row ( teddy purcell !!! )
I heard not too long ago on here that someone said Lauri Tukkonen is a late bloomer who does have the potential of a Hossa/Ovechkin or whatever. I don't think so. Does anyone recall about this too?
That was probably Stemmer, can't think of anyone else.

Unless he pulled that beauty in a different thread, Stemmer said you could bank on Tukonen becoming a solid 2nd liner.
As was mentioned, signing Brunnstrom would "only" cost money and not a draft pick. And as I understand it, he still falls under entry level contract rules so his contract would be loaded with bonuses. So the only way he makes a ton of money is if he performs well, which naturally would be worth it.
People bring up Dopita, but keep in mind that he was 33 when he came over and was buried in the depth chart on a deep Flyers' squad. Or somebody like Jorgen Jonsson (defenseman Kenny Jonsson's brother) who was a star in Sweden but played a forgettable season in the NHL at age 27. At least Brunnstrom is younger and presumably has the desire to etch out an NHL career. Dopita only tried out the NHL after his buddy Roman Cechmanek said it wasn't so bad. Jonsson came to play with his brother and quickly retreated back to Sweden.
Not sure why there isn't any middle ground when people talk about Brunnstrom. He's either Daniel Alfredsson or he's going to be bust according to most people. What if he's "just" a solid 20 goal scorer?
I just imagine there are a few teams more desperate to add Brunnstrom than the Kings at the moment.
The kid is money. He would be a solid pick-up. With his speed and puck skills he's instantly made for the post-lock-out NHL. Will he come in and score 60 goals...no, I wouldn't go that far. But he easily could contribute 20-25 as a rookie. He's by far a better and younger risk than rolling the dice on another Nagy.
Kopitar
Brown
O'Sullivan
Frolov
Boyle
JMFJ
Hickey
Bogosian or Doughty
Bernier
Lewis
Purcell
Moulson
and possibly adding Brunnstrom
That would be an almost unbelievable core of young talent.

It may only cost money but there's also the risk of it ruining the salary structure and alienating some younger players. If the Kings were to sign Brunnstrom to some deal and promise him the top 6 spot he supposedly is asking for, other young players are going to think it's ok to come to the team demanding the world.
Say Brunnstrom signed for $2 mil with the Kings, how much do you think that would impact contract negotiations with O'Sullivan? I'd imagine the Kings are hoping to sign O'Sullivan to a deal for a similar amount that Brown got, around $3 mil per. Do you think O'Sullivan's going to be happy with that if the Kings give $2 mil to a guy who has never played a game in the NHL and wasn't drafted? You know O'Sullivan and his agent would be like "Well you're paying Brunnstrom $2 mil and he's never played a day in the NHL and Patrick's proven he can play on your top line and kill penalties, he's worth at least twice that." It's one thing to give a contract like that to a top draft pick where the salary is limited by the rookie cap and you're expected to pay out the bonuses but I don't like the idea of giving in to players ridiculous demands.
I also don't think it's a good idea if the rumors are true and he's demanding a guaranteed top 6 spot. What kind of message does it send to players down at Manchester? I'd be pissed if I was Purcell, Boyle, Tukonen etc to hear that they guaranteed a roster spot to this kid while the rest of the players have had to earn their spot in the lineup. I'd imagine that would cause some resentment between the younger players not quite established as NHLers and Kings management. Not to mention what happens if he blows?

You have a point about the culture of youth we have on our team, and what sort of message it would send to our prospects fighting for a roster spot, but it can't be any worse then losing a roster spot to willsie or thornton...obviously they have " veteran presence " as DL like to call it, and they hace earned the respect of their peers, but for a team like La trying to build a contender for years to come its worth the gamble. Any deal brunnstrom signs will be laced with bonus clauses and would be directly based on his performance on the ice. Look at how well Johan Franzen is playing in these playoffs for Detroit and they are roughly the same build. I think the fact that the Teddy purcell signing has shown alot of promise for the future, a second late-bloomer given the chance to play will be welcomed if the team gets better. All the young guys want to win....win soon and win often......they are tired of losing...just ask JMFJ
