I can understand not embracing him as the second coming, I don't really get the jeering at this point though. Last year was an abomination, on defense, in goal (Cloutier AND Garon), and to pin the frustrations and displaced anger on one guy for it is pretty lame.
The guy has come back from some pretty crappy injuries, stuck with it after an abyssmal year last year, and has fought his way back into the show. Considering he could've pretty much sandbagged it and cashed his $2 mil check for the next two years, THAT tells me a hell of a lot about Dan Cloutier's character. Like him, don't like him, whatever, I think it's pretty ****ty that people are going to pile on him when it's his chance for a clean start. As Kings fans, I'd hope we would be cheering for all of our players to succeed, not just the ones whose contracts we happen to like...hopelessly idealistic idiot that I am.
I'm not sure what his contract has to do with this--- his contract has nothing to do with my feelings on him.. maybe it does with everyone else. As far as I'm concerned all athletes make too much money, so hating one more then the other for it, doesn't make any sense!
Other then that, I hear and can understand what you are saying. And if he does turn into the second coming, I'd gladly eat my foot in a hero-- because I'm a Kings fan. In the meantime, I retain the right, as a Kings fan, to want what is best for the team (in my humble and idiotic, non trained, non paid for opininon) and I don't think Babs has earned being replaced for the rest of the season so Cloutier can try to get his game back. Maybe it isn't a jeer towards Cloutier as much as loyalty for Babs.

One of the major issues with Cloutier, aside from the tired beachball thing, is that he had signed a 2-year, $4 million extension without basically having played a real game for us. Obviously that had a little effect on the salary cap, but coupled with his performance/issues, basically had people feeling like he shafted us. Now, how this is directly Cloutier's fault, and not DL's, I'm not sure. I can't think of too many people that would turn down that kind of money, if offered.
Oh, and while my post was a response to yours, it was not necessarily directed at you. I'm sure there are a lot of people ready to boo him the second he steps on the ice...some for no better reason than they heard that other LGKers are going to.

I wouldn't turn it down. I guess my beef with him is different then where others are coming from. Yes, I did know about the contract and have heard but then tuned out the arguments regarding the contract. I just don't think he played well at all and never got his act together. That is bad for the Kings. I also know that he went to the minors and during that time Babs has done as well as I think we could expect (besides being streaky at times) with the defense infront of him, so where did he earn being replaced in January?

That I agree on. I think if Labs can get a good night's rest every 3-4 games though, it'll be ultimately better for his game too. Sad to say, I didn't feel he could with Aubin.

I would just like to interjec tthe point that several times it was mentioned that Cloutier is a BACKUP. Labs is in NO danger of being 'replaced'. Clouts playing one game in a back to back scenario with both being afternoon games is a smart move, especially after the number of games in a row Labs has played. Sometime or another your number one needs a rest, and that is what the BACKUP is for.
Jim said it like 8 times in the first period. I dont see where you get the impression that Clouts was brought up to be a contender.
I can understand not embracing him as the second coming, I don't really get the jeering at this point though. Last year was an abomination, on defense, in goal (Cloutier AND Garon), and to pin the frustrations and displaced anger on one guy for it is pretty lame.

He has my respect for that, he could quite happily been pissed off being sent down to Monarchs and just given up, but he is back and while he doesn't get a free pass to the HOF I will applaud his saves and groan if he lets a soft one
Do I really need to dig up that Lidstrom goal from center ice highlight? Do I really need to point out the fact that his confidence was so piss poor after that that the Red Wings went on to win the series when they were trailing 2-0, and it's well known that he's largely blamed for that?
