Yeah, Ersberg looks good, but only time will tell.
Pros: Good positioning
fast reflexes
great glove hand.
His ability to control rebounds is by far superior to any of the kings recent goaltenders. that save on spezza from between the hasmarks was a great example. i dont know many goalies who would have a) hung on to that puck and b) made it look so easy. His ability to control rebounds is directly tied to his reflexes.
Unlike others who have wrote in this post, i think his awareness around the crease is really good. he had a couple of key pokechecks in the last couple of games (and one miss) and he doesn't let things come through his crease which is a flaw in JLBs game.
Cons: i think he does go down too early. You saw that on the two break aways in the St. Louis game. Once it didn't hurt him against Tkachuck, but the second time Tkachuck put it up stairs knowing that Ersberg was going to commit low.
He is small.
He needs to be more aggressive in his crease. He doesn't do well with traffic in front (what goalie does?) and may need to get a little more mean. Of course on the other hand, it could be he is just too focused on the play and he is just ignoring the distraction.
there may be more pros and cons that emerge as he gets more looks.
He perfects the art of poke check and it's cool to see an LA King goalie utilize the poke check! It works, I like it! Coool! Let him play the rest of the season and see where that goes. He's better the Clouts, no doubt!
Also from what I seen Bernier is still our best goalie! Now imagine Bernier and Ersberg! NICE!

I noticed his poke check abilities too. He's awesome. That's something that you also gotta have good confidence in too cause that could easily backfire. You poke your stick out and then someone swipes the puck underneath it and it's a goal.
Anyone else see him swat at the puck in mid-air multiple times over the past few games? The dude is accurate, I gotta give him that.
personal issue begets contract issue (due in large part to his out of shape at camp issue) begets rib issue begets sports hernia issue...
Far too much it sounds to me like frustration with a losing season begets searching for reasons to explain why begets being overly critical of certain individuals begets oddly harsh expectations and criticism.
I am not heralding Labarbera as the savior of the franchise by any means, but conversely I am also not going to be so quick in labeling him a pariah either. I'll admit that I might be far too forgiving in comparison to most, but I really feel that we haven't been presented the full picture as far as Labarbera's ability or inability goes.

i'm far from deeming LaBarbera a pariah.
i just don't think he's got it. we've seen plenty, and what we've seen is an outstanding American Hockey League goaltender who is adequate enough to backstop the 30th place team in the National Hockey league.
i sincerely doubt that Jason even has that switch to flip. if anyone has any hope that this guy is somehow going to be a late bloomer, they're in for disappointment.

Yeah, I saw some great hand-eye coordination last night....swatting pucks out with his stick, or sometimes deflecting them up, and then catching them with his glove hand. It looked like he was having fun sometimes.
I'd like to add that he was actually GOOD at stopping pucks behind his net as well.

Well my first post on here, I have been lurking for a while, but after watching him play the last few games I noticed a few things, most of which have been posted already. The lack of rebounds is very noticeable and a nice change, he doesn't go wandering out of the crease, great reflex saves and something I have not seen in a Kings goalie in a long time....confidence.
Also something I liked yesterday, after he got hit in the head with the puck, he smiled, maybe it was just a dazed WTF smile, but it will not hurt his image.
Knowing that you are not going to have to chase rebound after rebound has got to help the D.
As most have said, lets give him time, see if he settles in, but for the first time I am not watching a game thinking how long till the goalie blows it for us.

.
I think he's done experimenting with stopping shots with the top of his head
I've liked him since his first game, he looks like real #1 stuff to me, maybe I'm just not used to seeing a goalie who can actually absorb pucks instead of throwing them out 15 feet into the slot.
He looks like Legacy did about 5 years ago. Extremely strong and fast legs. He is able to really get the legs moving while keeping his upper body square. That is very important. What makes a reflex goalie so streaky is usually upper body positioning. They are so reliant on their limbs that it creates holes in their bod. By that I obviously don't mean their literal body, but rather the 'body' that is used when makeing a body blocking save. If you watch a goalie make this save the have the elb
