Cam brings only scoring in and since he's been out our scoring has been fine. If he can bring the right price I have no problem showing him the door. His being a member of the NHLPA board means he's going to have to try for all the money he can in his next contract and he's not worth max contract money at this point in his career.
... I'd rather pay Handzus 4 million, than give Cammy 5.5 or 6.
that's gotta be the most hilariously outrageous thing i've read on here in a while, outside of ludicrous trade proposals.
the solution to making cammy worth the $5+M he'll command for being a >1 ppg player is to put him back in the center with fro and purcell on either wing. fro handles the puck so well and is so hard to dispossess that he carries a center's load offensively anyway, and when he makes his loop around the entire offensive zone with a defender hanging on him, that's a perfect opportunity for cammy to spot up and get ready for a one-timer. it's a little backwards apropos traditional positional responsibilities, but who cares?
- Will also want Johnson and Kopitar gone in 2 years so we can get those coveted draft picks - who will be gone in 5 years after that so we can get more coveted draft picks.
Building from within is a great idea and it's finally working for the Kings, but then you want to start trading away the pieces that you have built with no guarantee you can rebuild that piece again.
I hope dean lombardi isn't this stupid but I wouldn't be surprised.
Great post, and I agree. If the Kings are able put out Cammalleri-Kopitar-Frolov on one line and build a strong 2 line with Brown and O'Sullivan, a healthy Cammalleri will score goals and make plays. Michael needs to be locked up here long-term. If you're going to deal people, deal the vets.

Whether he is locked up long term or not depends on the price tag. At this point it is very difficult to see him getting much more than Dustin Brown's contract. Brown is the more complete player. If Cammalleri wants to stay for that kind of money, then great keep him.
Otherwise, Cammalleri for Pitkanen straight up, or Cammalleri for Smid and Cogliano sounds good to me.
I still prefer the Cammalleri for Suter deal above all others.

People, he has been a ppg player exactly once. Please stop assuming that this is going to be his average production throughout his career. He isn't worth the $5M+ that he probably wants, at least not yet.

Why would you move Brown to the 2nd line? He has great chemistry w/ Kopitar. They already tried Frolov w/ Kopitar & it didn't work.
I agree that Frolly & Cammy should be playing together, but they need a 1a/1b center to compliment them.
All hail Sober, the voice of reason. I have been saying that for 2 yrs now.
Remember last year when a lot posters were saying trade Lubo? Remember when a lot of the posters were saying to TRADE BROWN NOW!?
Aside from the ball busting, this place is a little ridiculous sometimes.
Next year it will be trade Kopitar, Johnson, O'Sully and we will probably be seeing a lot more Froloaf threads.
Let's say they do trade him for draft picks/prospect and drops the top 6 forwards to 4, who do the kings have right now, that can replace his production?
Purcell? Moeller? Simmonds? Handzus? Calder? Gauthier? Parce? Moulsson? Army? I'm sorry, but Stamkos is not a guarantee. If they did draft SS, they would still be short 1 top 6 player.
We know the history of top flight UFA's not wanting to come here. I'd rather pay Cammy 4-5 mil over 5-6 yrs instead of paying an average UFA's (ie Calder) to try to replace his production. Because that is the type of player they are going to get.

To add to this... here are the PPG of the players this season Cammalleri's age and younger:
Frolov: .923
Kopitar: .9
Brown: .812
Cammalleri: .805
O'Sullivan: .54
Moulson: .308
Purcell: 0
So he's better offensively than guys who haven't had a full NHL season yet. And he has virtually no penalty killing time (7:06 all year, for an average of 11 seconds/game). Of the above listed, only Purcell is worse with 1 second of penalty killing time. Frolov is marginally better with 13:12 shorthanded, for an average of 20 seconds/game.
Oh, and Cammalleri has the third highest average powerplay time on ice... and even though he's missed 14 games, he has the 7th highest time on the powerplay.
So given all his time and his stage of development, he's not even the best offensive player, and that's pretty much the only thing he needs to worry about. And there's good reason: he's not fast, but he's small. He's also too selfish with the puck too often, usually rushing into the offensive zone with two or three players closing in on him, and he thinks he can finesse his way out of it.
This isn't to say he's a bad player... Objectively, he's above average as a player and is a great supplement. However, do you really want to be paying him 5-6 million when his contract is up?
Bear in mind, also, he's going to have a GREAT season next season, wherever he is. People will be chiming in with the "I told you so's" and mocking those of us who think it's best that Cammalleri's traded. However, the surge in production will be more due to the fact it's a contract year... just like how Aaron Miller mysteriously stayed healthy all season long during his contract year; just well enough to get the best new contract he could with a team.

You would rather, yes.
Would he? That is the million dollar question that I'm pretty sure DL already knows the answer to.
