About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. On his awareness and effort in the defensive zone?
It's one of two areas I would really like to see improvement on from him going into next year, the other being to better utilize his size in possessing the puck (i.e. Frolov).
Truthfully though, the whole team sucks. Everyone from Kopitar to Johnson to Blake to Cloutier is coming up short somewhere in their game, and nobody really should be exempt from criticism. It's just far more en vogue to kick the goaltender when he's down.
Probably, but only because some of the errors that the whole rest of the team makes in the defensive zone are so glaringly obvious. When you're desperate for a bright spot, his PPG performance tends to blind you from his defensive lapses.
wow u all get stupider as the day goes on, ya u all bash kopitar now and he leads the kings in PTS. WOW WOW WOW, ya put him with ellis and guilliano and ivanans on line 4. U must be drunk or dumb.
Send his ass to Manchester, call up Boyle in his place.
oh yes cause boyle is so much better then kopitar. NOT!!!! I dont know if any of you watch the game, but none of the players play defense, cammi and frolov both blow at D

Hard to make a case that HE is the dumb one when his post was so blatantly sarcastic...
The guy is 20 years old and has to carry the team on his back offensively, since all the other scorers have on and off stretches throughout the season. I just watched last night's game's highlights and he was in every Kings play in the Avs zone, which included the set-ups for both goals.
It would be nice if he improved his defensive play, but how about if the rest of the team stepped up and contributed something as well? The defense has been non-existent lately. You don't want your 20 year old sophomore carrying all the responsibility for the team's play, that's the kind of stuff that could ruin his development.
Does he get a free pass? No. Granted he's young and play in the defensive zone tends to be problematic or perhaps lacking in many young forwards, still, it's definitely something that he will continue to work on over the next few seasons. As he gets better at it, the Kings results should improve...
I hope he's not paying too much attention to Michael Lo-Ri-Der Handzus in his own end, the guy has been horrendous in even strength situations in the Kings defensive zone all season...
