Yeah, Neidermeyer and Pronger grew up in the Ducks system and everything.
Yea and the Ducks sucked for years to obtain assets Lupul and Smid who were dealt for Pronger.Neids came because his brother and don't think for a minute Pronger would have agreed to waive his NTC had Scott Neidermayer not been a Duck.

gescom already pwned your critique, but I'll add...
I just got back from Bruins/Penguins and holy **** the B's look good. Wideman is a more-than-capable partner for Chara on the blueline, and Hal Gill is still a useless Giraffe. Hossa hurt his knee in the 1st period. Oops.
I bring this up because the Penguins are a couple years ahead in the process that we're going through now, and they overshot the forward position badly...why they'd pick Esposito after already having Crosby/Malkin/Staal is beyond me, given that their blueline is rubbish and M-A Fleury is a giant young question mark. Why they added Esposito and not Petrecki is beyond me, apropos organizational needs. Now, if not for the resurgence of Ty Conklin's career, they'd be in the black hole.
After a couple more 2d or 3d round playoff exits by the team with two of the league's most entertaining forwards, I predict they'll mortgage some of their future on some big-name mercenary defensemen through FA signing or trade of aforementioned Staal, now that they don't have Armstrong as an asset and their draft picks will be mediocre or low. Letang, Orpik, and Whitney are their D-men that actually have the sack to play physical and stick up for their teammates--no surprise, they're Pens originals. Meanwhile, Gonchar, Sydor, and Gill are taking up space, and Scuderi's the odd man out. Sure, Gonchar can QB a power play, but...seriously...Gonchar?! GONCHAR? 0.83 ppg d-man, but 70% of those points are on the PP, and he's only a +3. Gonchar. Bah.
Anyway, when DL picks Doughty, we'll all smile and nod and say "here's where we improve on the Pens' model."

Meanwhile the Penguins actually MAKE the playoffs, could possibly win the division if not the conference, and they have Letang coming up on D.
Meanwhile, we're penning our future on a goaltender who is 13-13, defnsive prospects... wait... do we even HAVE defensive prospects, and we're about to deal away the player we spend years developing into a scorer because we don't want to pay him because he doesn't score enough or what he things he's worth.
Round and round we go. While the Penguins are back in the limelight, the Kings dwell teh cellar with very little hope in sight say for some "draft picks".
At least if you're a Commodore or a Campbell you could sign with the Penguins, solidify their defense, and have a GREAT chance at winning the cup. While the Kings will resign Stuart, Blake and Modry.
There's a REASON why there's been 40 years of futility.
