"Any time you're an unrestricted free-agent-to-be, your name is going to pop up no matter your situation. I don't really worry about it too much at this point. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen."
See the difference between having class and being a selfish arrogant captain?
But wait! There's actually MORE!

`I like it here. It's a great place to play. It's tough when you don't win. That can make any situation miserable. But I don't think it's been miserable. It's just been a tough year. This is a great organization with fans that are looking for a winning team to really get behind. We just haven't been able to do that this year. But I like it here.
Where's Rob Blake saying "I like it here. The fans are great"????
But THEN, Stuart SLAYS Rob Blake by saying THIS....
Quote:
"Any time you get a chance to go to a good team and have a chance to win, that's good. You see it every year. I haven't really thought about that. I'm just kind of focused on what we need to do here to gather some wins. Anything else is out of my hands.''
Whoa! He's just focused on what he needs to do to gather some wins rather than where he'd LIKE to play????
Where's Rob Blake saying "I like it here. The fans are great"????
He doesn't want to lie. He knows from his 5 years in Denver that LA Kings fans are whiny shmucks who could not comprehend that the NHL is a business (for the players as much as the owners) if a Wharton professor hit them over the head with a (hardbound) copy of Hayek's Individualism and Economic Order (pub. 1948, University Of Chicago Press).

You're not dumb. Stop pretending to believe the cliches that athletes spew for public consumption (which they say to curry favor with fans, media, & management). All athletes have to look out for themselves because nobody else will.
BTW, acorns are gathered, hockey wins have to be produced.

If Stuart can play for another season like he's played in the last six or seven games, then I say resign him on-the-cheap for third pairing duties.
I'm not sure which scares me more, a player that only seems to play well in a contract year or a player that can't even get it up during a contract year.
With all deference to Wolvie, I have to have to agree with FBJ. Stuart was the best King on the ice last night and finally, finally, finally appears to be feeling comfortable in LA. I now think the Kings should deal Rob (again) and resign Stuart. He is a veteran and I think he knows what it takes to be a pro.

We all get that you believe that this is just a business to the players and nothing else, but don't expect the fans to stop behaving like fans. Booing Blake doesn't make the fans whiny schmucks. It makes them people that have an emotional investment, as well as a financial investment in the team that they follow.
One might expect the same passion and emotional commitment from Mr. Blake once and awhile, but sadly he has failed to demonstrate that most of the time this season.

I love ya man, but I disagree with you on this.
I know that NHL is a business but there are limits. Did you have the same ambivalence for Yashin and Nedved when they skipped out on their teams? Hey, "it's just business"...
For many (most?) hockey players it's not just business. That's one thing that separates them from most other pro athletes and why I'm a huge hockey fan. The day they turn into business-only guys like in the NBA and MLB, you'll be talking to a curling fan.

And that's the thing. "Fans" is short for "fantatics"...we're emotional about our teams and their players. I don't understand "fans" who are apathetic about the things that go on with their teams. I'm not going to lose sleep over this stuff, but I'm also not going to just shrug my shoulders with apathy when a player or team official does something that's going to hurt the team. What's the point of being a fan of a team if you don't actually care what happens?
