Cliff notes: He's satisfied he did everything he could do. The Adam Foote deal with Colorado probably impacted what the Avalanche would offer for Blake. For Stuart, he did the same deal as what Brent Sopel brought last year. There was some contract talk with Stuart and the Kings decided based on that to move him. Thornton, who also had a no-trade clause, gave him a list of four teams to which he would accept a trade. They almost had a deal with one but it fell through because of a bigger deal the team pulled.
Big thanks to Matt for posting this pretty quickly.
Enjoy.
Also, found this pretty interesting.

Lombardi said that Thornton, who also had a no-trade clause, gave him a list of four teams he would like to go to that he thought could win the Stanley Cup. The Kings almost had a deal with one of these teams but then that team went and did a large deal that ended up keeping that one from happening.
...Yeah... that's ONE thing Lombardi has to work on. No more NTC for mediocre, over-the-hill players, k?

The other thing you didn’t see in the past, and it's a product of free-agency, is that a lot of players have no-trades. It's something that, as free-agency comes down to the 27-year age and it's harder and harder to acquire players, sometimes you don’t have a choice if you want a player. There's not a lot of good players out there and it's almost becoming standard fare (to include a no-trade clause in a contract). That clearly had a huge impact on the market that we haven’t run into before. Before the lockout, this never was an issue.''
i am very dissappointed that DL couldn't pull off more moves, but then again, i have NO IDEA how hard it is to make deals, so i shouldn't be commenting on his work.
I don't blame the players in these situations, I blame the GM. Where are all the DL apologists who were washing his balls when he signed all the UFAs? You know, the ones who said it cost the team nothing and DL would be able to turn them into assets. I give DL some credit for getting as much as he did for Stuart (3rd & 5th) which I am sure is much less than the #1 you thought DL was getting for Stewie.
The part about Stuart sounded cryptic to me. It was my interpretation (and maybe hope more than anything else) that the Kings presented Stuart with an extension offer, and possibly told him that same offer would be available in the summer, but that that they could get better value for him now to improve the team.
I think there is a possibility of resigning him still.
As for Blake... it is my opinion that the "C" be removed from his jersey as quickly as possible and given to Kopitar or Brown. Whether he left or not, I still think he's a greedy bastard! I had wished for him to be traded and then resigned, but now I hope he just leaves. I don't want him back in the summer. Go play in Colorado.
But the most important thing for us is to try and get that back similar to how we look at the front. I think it’s pretty good that we see some younger players that are here -- we had some additions with boyle and Purcell. I'd like to see us get the same feeling on the back.
