This afternoon’s Darby Updates is brought to you by the letter Z.
As the Kings skated skittishly on the ice this afternoon, I was busy fighting my own battle with the Zs. Those of you not at the game, consider yourselves lucky that it was not televised.
There’s no point in calling out individual mistakes. It was a collective team loss. I can probably count the good parts of this game in one hand. You know the saying “the best brings out the best”? Well, Nashville, while not the worst in the NHL, was bad enough to bring out the ugly in the Kings.
Random musings:
The best of the afternoon without a doubt goes to our Hero of the Night, who triumphantly waved a “Kings 5 Pens 2” towel/banner, even if just for all of 3 seconds. Props to you, sir!
Honorable mention to Jarrod Stoll for audaciously attempting the wraparound late in the second period, momentarily forgetting that he’s neither Frolov nor Kopitar.
My seat neighbor pointed out that in the past, Quick’s stick-throwing would’ve automatically resulted in a penalty shot. Lucky for him, only a 2-min. interference, which the Kings killed.
At one point I said to girl4kings that the Predators ought to score first so the Kings will wake up.
They did.
With about 2 minutes to go in the second period.
Problem?
Intermission happened.
I realize and acknowledge that an afternoon game can throw a player off of his usual game-day routine, but playing like that against the Nashville Predators is just not acceptable.
Props to Nick and Daryl for blasting the National Anthem during Kings Talk to appease all the complainers. That gave me a good chuckle driving to Adgy’s surprise birthday party.
Speaking of which, time to get back to the drunken madness.
Posting live from Sticky’s, this is Lice, reporting for the MIA darby.

the between period highlights of the game were hilarious. there were close up shots of skates and sticks and ample shots of the ice girls. there was just NOTHING to like or that needed to be seen again.
