no team looking for a backup is likely to claim Cloutier, but they may be interested in claiming Aubin on the way back up, and the Kings would have zero problem swallowing half of a prorated $260,000 salary.
it's probably the best way to begin cleaning up the goaltending pileup they have... next will likely be buying out Cloutier at the end of the season, and letting Ersberg walk.
Here is what is going to happen. JLB will suffer a season injury. Cloutier will start, and the Kings will lose Aubin on re-entry, and have to call up Ersberg.
Cloutier ends the year as the starter, putting up a GAA of around 2.75, and a Save %age of .915+.
DL clearly understands that JLB is threatening to ruin our plans at drafting Stamkos and is taking the appropriate and necessary measures to secure our drafting position.
I fully expect to see Dan Cloutier in net for no less than 50% of our remaining games this season.
AND i think that somehow, some way, J.S. Aubin will end up in San Jose.
We are too close to Tampa Bay. Edmonton lost Horcoff for the season. Toronto is the worst team in the NHL right now.
The Kings will pass these 3 teams and get screwed in the draft, losng out on Stamkos, Doughty and Schenn.
SO, Lombardi reacts quickly:
1) Sends Blake home, while he's playing his best hockey of the year.
2) Sends Dustin Brown home a week early before Nicole's c-section.
3) Recalls Cloutier.

Letting Ersberg walk would be a huge mistake in my opinion. First year pro in North America and he's done a pretty damn decent job. Ersberg could very well end up having a similar career to Manny Legace and Cristobal Huet in that the Kings organization gave up on them only for them to be solid #1's on other teams. I'd also like to point out that Ersberg is about to hit the "prime" age for a goaltender and Taylor and Quick are still a little too green.
as much as I hate Cloutier. I am actually excited to see him come back, assuming he makes it through waivers.
Part of that is, I have though Aubin has always sucked poo since he came in the NHL. I don't wish him the best and hopefully doesn't make it through waivers
