Hopefully Rich can call up Dean Lombardi and get some answers...
That's a sad story. I don't care if he isnt earning his 3.1 a year, you don't treat a guy like he is a piece of equipment.... This story isnt going to help the Kings sign any Free Agents this summer, not too many players want to go to a team where the management jerks people around like that. Cloutier has heart thats for sure. I wonder if this is why he hasn't really played up to par with the Kings?
That's exactly how I see it. Anyone who boo hoo's this story & Cloutier needs to think about how the Kings are going to add or retain quality free agents in the future. For every story that makes a fish wrap there's plenty more being told by players & agents that keep the top end guys away from here. Win or lose players wanna play for class organisations & from the looks of it LA isn't on that short list.
...or maybe he was waiting for the Kings to show some class and treat him like more than a bag of pucks.
Also, for those of you who like to say that Clutch should take some of his fat contract (and forget that these players a. have bills like the rest of us and b. receive paychecks just like the rest of us and not a lump sum check to sit in an account...) and upgrade his surroundings need to take some time to read up on the CBA. Even though this was a move within the organization, it still falls under Article 14. He was assigned to a different team in a different city, and as such was entitled to 21 days of one room hotel accomodations and after such time up to 6 months of rental/mortgage (whether by team arrangement or by him renting on his own). Not one of us on this board would put out one red cent for a thing if it was shown in the contract that the company is supposed to take care of it. Those of you who are about to quote this and say different are lying because you want another reason to dislike Cloutier and you know it.
At this point, I expect nothing less than a lack of class by the way this organization treats the players it doesnt think it needs anymore. Dont think this is Lombardi's way?? Um... someone want to put in a phone call to Craig Conroy and ask him what he thinks about it?

It was later reported by DL, himself, that Calgary REQUESTED Conroy to travel to Calgary seperate from the team after he was traded.

What happened with Craig Conroy? I assume you mean more than him being traded after he also underperformed nightly.
I don't really buy it. DL has never used low tactics for guys with NTC so I don't see why he'd do that with Cloutier wanting Cloutier to retire or request a release.
I agree just look how DL's treated Conroy by sending him to Calagry & giving the guys with NTC's options of places they could go to. Plus with Luc in the front office he's making sure the players are treated in a 1st class fashion like when McNaill ran the team. Dan should brush up on some European languages in the summer and find a new job overseas.
When you're pulling in $3.1m, it's just a little bit different. Yes, it is.
And that he would subject his wife to the rigors of staying at the Super-8 says something about him don't you think?
And if the CBA backs him up (which apparently it does), why not fork over the extra cash to upgrade your pregnant wife and then just send the receipts to the Kings? And if you don't get reimbursed, you still made $3.1m - no biggy!
