After this, his worst season, and before his NMC kicks in after the draft?
Last call...... DL will be on the hook for $5.650 thru the 2012-2013 season, when Lubo will be 35.
PRO:
Looking at the puck handling types the Kings already posess... JJ, Preissing, Harold, Hickey and the good possibility of DL drafting Doughty, thats a lot of offense and not much defense/grit outside of JJ. That's still a lot of money no matter what. Trading Vis to a team in the lottery could result in a Schenn/Bogo/Pete AND Doughty haul on draft day. This would give the Kings one hell of a pool of young defensive talent (JJ, Doughty, Schenn, Hickey, Martinez). Go the short route and trade Vis for an accomplished defensman with some size/grit (Gleason +).
CON:
Based on what a player simuliar player like Brian Campbell/Redden will get thru UFA, Lubo's contract may be a good deal providing he bounces back. There's not much veteran depth. No.. Cammy will be the player moved !? Fans could't handle losing a popular productive player to the rebuild because they are expecting a playoff appearance next year, not 2011. This year was just a bump in the road. This will affect future RFA negotiations.
I tend to think that Lubo will stay, but because of the poor year, the NMC and the contract/cap considerations, I wonder just what Lubo's trade market value would be after the season, and if it might make any sense.
