Come on, give credit where credit is due. He played a strong game. Will it translate into more games like that? We have no idea. But, at least it's a start, and he can gain nothing but confidence, which is a good thing, from that one solid start.
We bashed him when he royally SUCKED last season, now it's time to give him props for playing well, albeit one game or not.

I'm not about to "give credit where credit is due" on this one b/c he hasn't earned any props since becoming a King. He's sucked for a couple of years now and THAT is the track record most of us are looking at. One game? Don't hold your breath on this one.
Cloutier was a man possessed in the 3rd. He made some brilliant saves. Of course, this is a guy that realizes 1. he's not ready to retire and 2. this is his last chance to prove his worth as an NHL goalie. Looks like he's more than ready to do that.

I can't believe I'm defending Cloutier, but you say he's sucked for a couple of years? Oh really. Let's look at his stats the last little while shall we:
2001-02 Vancouver Canucks NHL 62 0 0 20 3502 142 2 7 2.43 31 22 5 1440 0.901 6 0 0 0
2002-03 Vancouver Canucks NHL 57 0 3 24 3376 136 6 2 2.42 33 16 7 1341 0.908 - - - -
2003-04 Vancouver Canucks NHL 60 0 1 22 3539 134 2 5 2.27 33 21 6 1420 0.914 - - - -
2004-05 Klagenfurt AC Aust 13 0 0 6 10 0 3 2
2005-06 Vancouver Canucks NHL 13 0 0 4 681 36 0 0 3.17 8 3 1 298 0.892 - - - -
2006-07 Los Angeles Kings NHL 24 0 1 21 1281 85 1 0 3.98 6 14 2 523 0.860
That's his stats over the last 5 seasons. I count 1 season where he has sucked, and that was last year where he was injured. Now, please come up with some facts that tell me otherwise. He was a scapegoat in Vancouver, and he quickly became that in L.A. Although, it can be warranted alot more in L.A. then it could in Vancouver. But, everyone does forget that he was INJURED last season.
He came into this game and played VERY well. He didn't have a decent game, he had a good game. Now, at least give him props for that. Everyone expected him to be pulled by the middle of the 1st period. He came in and won a game with solid play. Give credit where credit is due, cause I know you'll jump all over him once he has a bad game.

To all you haters: If Cloutier continues to play well down the stretch and is on his game next year, DL will not have to acquire or spend cap dollars (after buying Cloutier out) on another bridge goalie.
'08-'09: LaBarbera and Cloutier, with Bernier in the AHL
yes cloutier had a solid game in columbus. to say that he played better than labarbara is a stretch tho. im not saying that labarbara is the answer, but he has played some great games in net for the kings both this season and two seasons ago. you cant really say the same thing about cloutier. yes he played well, and yes he made some good saves, but he did not play great or exceptionally well. if he can consistently performed like he did in columbus, however, then that is fantastic. he and labarbara willl make a good tandem for the remainder of the season. but at this point we need to take a wait and see attitude. lets not count our beachballs before they are in the net.

I'm very positive about Cloutier's direction, and those numbers support that he *can* play well and somewhat consistently. Numbers don't show intangibles, though, like his propensity for the "soft" goal at inopportune times. See: Osgood, Chris.
he played good but i dont think he deserves the #1 spot after 1 freakin game. he did play columbus who is on a major slump so lets talk about clouts being a #1 once he plays some top teams. everyone needs to stop jumping to conclusions and ****
