Los Angeles Kings - News: GRANATO TO APPEAR AT
I'm still pissed of about how Team USA treated Cammi. They should have allowed to retire gracefully considering everything that she brought to the program. You just don't treat your veteran players that way.

Treating them like how?
She had spent 15 or 16 years as part of the team. Clearly she wasnt where she used to be (shes a Granato, not a Chelios...) Are you pissed that the coach that watched her play in the training camp decided that it would be better for the TEAM to go younger? Or are you pissed because she was the name you recognized and had an attachment to instead of Krissy Wendell?

No. They should have asked her to retire behind closed doors and given her the opportunity to take the retirement publicly herself instead of being released from the team without notice a couple of weeks prior to the Olympics starting.
I can see your point. However, how can we be sure that opportunity wasnt afforded to her and she refused it? I know Cammi Granato is like the GodMother of women's hockey and as such I should be thankful and lick her skate boots, however, Im not convinced that she isnt the type to try to go against the grain and refuse an offer like that. Not saying its a bad thing, but sometimes with some people ego is a hell of a drug and if she thought she was at a higher level than she was...
anyway, I guess we can agree to disagree. Especially since neither one of us are priivy to coaches office conversations to be sure what happened. Afterall, theres always two sides to every story and usually the truth is somewhere in the middle.

The right way to run a sports team is to treat everybody the same way. When you try out for a team, there's always a chance someone better is going to beat you out. Having special rules for veterans is a terrific way to divide a squad into cliques .... and Cammi Granato should know that.

I disagree. Granato had been a huge part of the program for 10+ years and a long time captain of the team. I'm not saying that if she had lost her step that she should have still made the team. All they had to do was pull her into the office and let her know that there was a good possibility that she might not make the team and allow her to bow out gracefully.

Here are a couple of quotes fro Cammi.
Quote:
I trained as hard for this camp as any before and I came to Lake Placid ready to compete and ready to succeed. This hasn't been easy news for me and it is going to take some time to absorb and understand this. It's not what I trained for and it's certainly not what I expected. That said, I'm extremely proud of the players who were named to the roster. They're great athletes, great competitors, and they will represent our country with pride and honor.

I'd like to think I have enough self-awareness to know when my time as a player is done. But if for some reason, unbeknownst to me, that I couldn't see when the end was for me, I have a support group of high level hockey people, family, teammates, and friends, who give me honest assessments of my game all the time. They would tell me.

If I had slowed down, I would step aside gracefully and be OK with it,
By these quotes they did not give her the respect due for her time as a player and leader for the team. They decided that they wanted to go younger and it didn't matter who was left behind to do it.
when they have Lindsey Soto signing autographs then I'll give a crap.. Until then, the only Granato I want to see in Staples in Tony when they give him the coaching job that should be opening real soon....
