I was told that Lowe ABSOLUTELY loves Zajac from several sources, but I was also told that a trade that came VERY close to happening between LA and Edmonton involved his other main target Mike Cammalleri.
I heard that the only part that kept the trade from happening was the Kings wanted the recently acquired Joni Pitkanen. I heard that Roloson may have also been included in this deal. From what I can tell the Oilers didn't want to trade Pitkanen having just acquired him.

Why it would happen now is that that the Kings are on the verge of possibly trading three pending UFAs on defense. Rob Blake to the Ducks, Brad Stuart to the Wings, Devils, Flyers, or Sabres, and Modry to one of thoe teams that doesn't get Stuart.
Eklund states that this could happen either before Feb. 26th or in the offseason next season.
NAME YOUR PRICE!!!
Joni Pitkanen? Andrew Cogliano? First Round Pick in 2009 (Possible John Tavares pick)? Taylor Chorney? Jeff Petry?
Cammalleri for Pitkanen is a stupid trade. First we don't need any more puck rushers more than we need a defensive specialist on the backline and two why the hell would we trade a bonafide scorer it's not like they grow on trees...
With the stupid offer sheet to Penner and all the picks they had to give up to the Ducks (including a first in 2008), the Oilers don't have enough to give us for Cammy. We can get better value elsewhere, I think.

Players who have played on the Kings this season who have at least as many points as Cammalleri in the last ten games they played:
Yeah, that would be like trading one smurf for another smurf, and we have the better smurf.
If Lombardi can move him before the deadline for a bonafide top 4, young defenseman that would be great. If he has to wait until the off season or next season to get it done, that's fine too.
It would be nice if Cammalleri went on a little tear over the next 2 or 3 games to picque the interest of some GMs.
I know it's a small sample... but Cammalleri is not as good as people are making him out to be, especially not at his asking price.
Six of the people outscoring him are younger. Two are defensemen.
And not one of them scored 35 goals last year. Not one of them has scored 35 goals in a season, EVER. I agree that MC is overrated, but I don't think the above is a legit method to determine value.
Edit: Oops. I inverted Fro and Cammalleri's goal totals from last season in my head. So Frolov HAS scored 35 goals in a season, and Cammalleri's high was 34 last year. Thsi last-10-game comparison is still not a valid way to assess a player's value, IMO. If MC tanks for the rest of the season, his value may drop accordingly, but I expect that he'll start putting up some points between now and the end of the season.
