Yes, we could break out the "Kings haven't drafted in the top 10" argument, but CBGB's bias has always been against Al Murray and his idiotic selections.
Ummm, did you just refer to yourself by name?

So at 1-10 Kopitar wasn't a great pick, but at 11 he was a "no-brainer"? I see.
Where Al Murray failed was in the selections of Steckle and Tambellini and Boyle vs what WAS available immediately thereafter. Grebeshkov and Anshakov (a complete and utter useless bust) vs Duncan Keith, Matt Stajan, Jiri Hudler.
Yes because no other team has selections that poor huh? And the Kings have NEVER got anything good from the later rounds?
What I believe in DL and his team is that those type of selection won't happen ever again.
Hilarious! You would believe that! And I promise you, you will be the first poster on this board to have a meltdown if other guys from last year's draft make it before Hickey.
We will get the Oscaar Mollers of the world, the Wayne Simmons, who wasn't on anyones radar... THAT is what I trust about DL as opposed to Al Murray and his bumbling buffoons.
You mean like Cammalleri, the 2nd rounder or more like Lubo? Or were they just more no brainers that dropped to us?
Sorry dude, but when you're having another conversation with yourself, tell CBGB that if this team ever goes anywhere it will be with a core/foundation of guys like Kopitar, Brown and Frolov, all guys that Al Murray drafted. And that will be worth more than a footnote.
Al Murray sucks. He and his staff made a ton of bad selections. Sure Brown and Kopitar are turning out great, but they fell into our laps.

Kopi would have been a great pick in the top 10. If you redo that draft, most people would have Anze going 2nd or 3rd. On draft day the fans of the teams that went 4-10 were all saying "Oh goody! Anze's on the board!" followed by "WTF! WHY DIDN'T WE DRAFT KOPITAR?"
Look at some of the other players Murray drafted in the early rounds - scrubs like Jens Karlsson, Danny Roussin, Sergei Anshakov, Mathieu Biron, and Andrei Shefer. What are they doing now?
DL got a huge amount of talent through the draft when he was with San Jose. Al Murray, in his 12 years, got only a handful of players in the draft that are excelling in the NHL - guys like Anze, Brown, Frolov, Jokinen, Lubo, Cammy, Huet, Lilja, and F. Kaberle. Contrast that with DL, who in 7 years with the Sharks, drafted players like Nabakov, Marleau, Cheechoo, Kiprusoff, Hannan, Stuart, Ehrhoff, Clowe, Sturm, and Toskala. In short, DL, in 5 fewer years of work, got a much more impressive group than Murray did.
After watching him at BC and being overjoyed when the Kings drafted him, I am thrilled that Boyle is up and was expecting him to randomly drop the gloves to complete the NHL debut Gordie Howe hat trick last night.
A 6'7" dude that can score, pass, play C or D, and definitely wants to kill you if you so much as look at him funny is going to be a really interesting piece of the puzzle.
Both his goal and assist were top 6 NHL forward quailty. On his goal, he got into the slot quick and his shot was crisp and top shelf past one of the best goalies of alltime. And his assist was a perfect bullet right onto the stick of Johnson, who was flying into the slot. These are not the plays of a 4th line center.
56 months after drafting him!
I hope he stays the rest of the season and produces. I closely watched his skating - he isn't that bad or too slow to play in this league. Any lack of speed will be made up with smarts, knowing where to be, and his NHL quality hands.
So at 1-10 Kopitar wasn't a great pick, but at 11 he was a "no-brainer"? I see.
As pointed out three spots above by a KNOWLEDGEABLE poster, Kopi was slated to go top 5, so yes, it was an absolute "no brainer"

Do you even bother to READ? 1st 2 rounds. That is what I'm talking about. 1st two rounds.

You may have been right before the WJ, But after watching Hickey play with Alzer I absolutely understand why Dean made that selection. Sorry, no Andrei Zyuzin here. I still believe Voracek is the better player but then again, Kostitsyn isn't better than Dustin Brown.

You don't REALLY want me to compare other teams' 2nd and 4th round selections against other teams, do you? You know what? I already have. YOU go do the research. I guarantee you don't reply when you quickly learn how many selections the Kings wasted (note: you'll find Toronto's selections abysmal... which is why they are chasing the Kings for last place)

Bet me now, in writing that Frolov is part of a championship Kings team. I'll wager a 45 year old scotch that he won't be.
How come you failed to mention Cammy here? Interesting.
