Boyle might be that 2nd line center the team has been craving.
But 2gs/1 assist in 2 games?
Obviously, that is not reality.
Wonder how he'll look after say, 8-10 games.
Every game he plays, other teams have more video of him,
more info/analysis of how to play him, etc etc
It was nice to see him take to NHL play so readily,
scoring at even strength and all.
And we've yet to see him much on the PP, or with
top-line guys like Kopi/Sully/Cammy.
His hands, previously advertised as "good" or "very good",
may end up being significantly better
than even that.
And his skating and positioning seem more than OK.
But he's surely on other teams' radar already
(how can they miss him!).
The Going will get tougher, and
smarter, fast.
It will be interesting to see if he can stick this year.
What's coming in the next few games
will test his hockey sense more than
any other skill he has.
Should be fascinating to watch, as
other teams try to trap him deep,
or decoy him out of position.
Still, he sure looked natural in that middle lane, IMO.
But seriously, whether he makes it this year or next,
The Kid is legitimate.
He will be an important player for us.
Possibilities:
(scoring in the 35-60 point range, being Joel Otto-type
who adds strong PP dimension.
or
possibly, just possibly,
a 1st/2nd-line
Dominator,
scoring in
the 70-90 point-a-game range.................?
