About This Page: This is a discussion on LA Kings Talk within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Where will the contracts for O'sullivan, Kopitar and Cammalleri end up.
Handzus makes more then all 3 of them at the moment.
TSN : NHL - Canada's Sports Leader
Cammalleri and Boyes are at about the same stage in their careers. Cammalleri is a much better player and has more experence. After next year he's guranteed atleast 4 million, up from 3.6 in 2008-9, he'll probably get close to 5 on the open market.
O'Sullivan and Kopitar are much younger so they fall into a different category. The Kings probably want another full year to evaluate O'Sullivan but whether or not they'll get it is hard to answer (may be offered a restricted deal). I'll guess they fear an offer and go for the longer deal at 2.75 x 5, otherwise 1 year at 1.5.
Kopitar is under contract next year. After 3 years of tearin' up the NHL on a rookie deal, he'll probably get just a bit more than Bergeron got which was 4.75 x 5. I'll guess 5.25 x 5.
current King players don't have to look to St. Louis for ridiculous player salary benchmarks. They only have to look in their own lockerroom.
Let's hope they won't do that and realise that DL's been overpaying bums and underpaying top performers. It's the kind of thing that last place teams do all the time.
I'd expect to see ~35% of the salary allocated to the top-6 forward corps, so that's about $20M if we're operating at 95% of a $57M cap. Brown's already a bargain at his spot, but Fro's a little overpaid or right at value, so those two cancel. That leaves about $14mil for C1, C2, and a pair of wingers. Since C2 is likely to be someone on an entry-level contract, Sully could get a slightly less-than-Brown-deal and Anze could get a Zeus/Lubo deal and there'd still be room to give Cammy a raise and have plenty of space for JMFJ next year.
The Zeus deal, if he ends up skating 3rd/4th line minutes and PK, is going to be the worst value on the roster next year...
Also, a quick check on zillow.com shows that you can get on the Strand for <4Mil unless you want the biggest flashiest place--not hockey style.
