They are very, very similar players, except Boyes is a little bigger, a lot faster, and is a little better defensively.
You have obviously never seen Boyes play.
You think Boyes is fast? You've never seen him play. He's a horrendous skater. He' strictly a front of the net mucker.
You think Boyes is good defensively? You've never seen him play. Do young goal scorers who are good at defense get traded 3 times before they turn 25? How many times have Frolov, Lehtinen and Zetterberg been traded?
Cammalleri and Boyes played on the same line at the World Juniors if you need a head to head comparison. In reality you just took Cammalleri's weaknesses and penciled them against some player you've never seen postulating that you could make an argument based around "hey, anyone's bigger than Cammalleri."

So, you base an entire argument on the assumption that I haven't seen Boyes play much, huh?
I'll spare you the dreary details of my life and just let you know that you couldn't possibly be further from the truth.
I see no reason that figure couldn't pop up to 37 to 40 percent. NJ currently has 22-24 million spent on their top 6. That is under the current salary cap limit which is millions less. None of their dmen are paid over 4 million a season which is something the Kings could possibly do with the exception of Lubo.
There isn't exactly a high priced goaltender in the works at the moment.
Even if they sign someone like Huet or Theodore they wont Brodeur type numbers.
The normal allocation of salary there doesn't apply yet either.
you're absolutely right, that figure could pop up to 37-40%, largely because we're still a couple years away from paying an elite goalie's salary. so, if you lock in all the young forwards at a flat rate, this year it may be 40% but in two years when we're looking to drop 5-6mil/yr on a goalie, it'll only be 35% and the room will exist.
i look at 80% of the total taking care of that top-11 on a team whose age distribution is at steady state (i.e. a couple of young guys on ELC's are balancing out the value associated with some comparatively overpaid character vets, and equal importance is paid to your C1, D1, and G1). that works out pretty well to something like 38% top-6 forwards, 30% top-4 D, and 12% elite G1. with the remaining 10 mil, you should be able to pay ten guys an average of a mil a year to grind it out and compete for better slots through 2-ways and ELCs. blah blah blah.
