You never realize how good Bob is until you start listening to some of the others on the Center Ice package. Some of those guys are so bad they make the Ducks play by play guy look like Bob Miller.
I must disagree with you on Jim. When Sports Illustrated asked all the hockey announcers who they thought the best color guy was Fox won. True he is a homer, but he know his stuff and is respected by everyone in the league. Oh yeah he is the guy who stole the puck from Gretzky with 15 seconds left to set up the tying goal during the Miracle on Manchester, so he gets a lot of leeway with me.
I agree, in that pic Bob is going in for the kill! Player status.....
Anyway, I do think Bob is the best and that Gayward and Ahlers are the worst. I hate how anytime the opposing team gets a call their way "they caught a break" but when it's the ducks it was a solid call. When both of the calls were the same. It's such a joke.
I like the main play by play guy on Versus, is it Mike Emrick?
definately think bob is one of the best announcers in the game. ive always liked emrick, but lately his voice has been wearing thin on me. but you have to love his energy. his craft is perfectly suited for the playoffs. hughson is by far my favorite cbc announcer. his delivery is silky smooth and his energy is never over the top or too understated. i wont list all the worst, except to say that i can't stand joe beninati the caps and versus pbp guy. everytime he says "bombs away" or "*goalie name* melts the puck" when he freezes it for a face off i want to throw something at the tv.

Although Fox has flaws, being a homer isn't one of them -- not even remotely close to being a homer. Time and again Fox will rationalize calls made that go against the Kings. I rarely see this from his peers.
Whoever does play-by-play for the Sharks is pretty good and the EA Sports/Canucks guy is pretty good, too. The Toronto bunch are good. For completely insane high energy voice-cracks, there's that guy in Buffalo.

Toronto's guy is great as well... certainly no volume issues with his voice. I like Dallas' tandem a lot also, but I know that's more of an acquired taste.

You guys, I respect your opinions here on most everything, but you are both WAAAAAAAAAAY off base about Randy Hahn. He is the absolute worst homer piece of crap to ever speak into a microphone. He makes Ahlers sound like a potential hall of famer.
I've been forced to listen to him for over 20 years and it turns my stomach every time.
