I've been keeping track over many games this year. FSN West and Prime Ticket show about 60% of the face-offs. The other 40% you don't get to see. I thought the face-off was one of the most important parts of the game. It starts the action and it determines possession. To me, a face-off in hockey is just as important as a pitch in baseball or a snap in football. You see every pitch in baseball and every snap in football. What FSN West and Prime Ticket are doing instead of showing us the face-offs are showing replays, players on the benches or in the penalty boxes, the goalie's mask, or graphics. All of that is fine as long as they get back to the ice in time to see the face-off. Otherwise, in my opinion, FSN West and Prime Ticket show considerable disrespect for the game of hockey and you, the Kings fans. Apparantly you're not -- to them -- sophisticated enough to regard the face-offs as important, and -- to them -- the game of hockey is an inferior sport to, say, baseball or football. I have Center Ice, and no other broadcaster is as bad as them. Thanks.

Just be thankful they even broadcast Kings games. I almost half expect them to show bowling, chess or international scrabble tournaments over the Kings.

Faceoffs aren't that important (*), and possession of the puck is not all that critical. If it was, then why would teams dump-and-chase all the time?
Of course it's better to have the puck than to not have the puck, but in hockey, territory is more important than possession, because even when the other team has possession, it's quite common to find ways to seperate the puck carrier from the puck and chase after it. Happens constantly.
Which situation would you rather have more often than not: (a) the Kings have possession of the puck in the Kings defensive end or (b) the opposition has possession of the puck in the Kings offensive end?
* Just because faceoffs are easily measured (and widely reported), doesn't mean they have that much influence on the outcome of the game.

FSN just doesn't want to show how many face-offs we're actually losing! We appear to be doing better when we don't have to watch us lose an additional 40% of the face-offs.
the picture is what pisses me off the most. recently watched a game on NHL channel of a Kings v. Oilers game from 1985 and the picture was better. Explain that.... Jim Fox talks way too F'n much and is hell bent on showing replays of offensive breakdowns, breakout passes or whatever. I'd much rather see replays of fights, hits or maybe clips of interviews like what HDNet does. And the latest "Pizza Pack" or "Family Night" ticket packages is shoved down our throats way too often. But really, the picture quality will fix most of what is wrong and make it much more viewer friendly. Game last week on HDNet was nice because you didn't have all the Kings advertisements and you could actually see names on their jerseys and even see the puck. Anyone else notice that your sound doesn't match the picture? On my tv that has much worse over the last few months and is really annoying

I aaaaaalmost agree with your post, but I'd say the first half a shift after the draw is pretty crucial when the faceoff is in an offensive zone as opposed to outside the blue line or at center ice. Faceoffs are critically important to road teams who can win a draw and correct a mismatch with quick change on the fly. If you're at home with last change and you put out exactly the line matchup you want and then win the faceoff, the opponents have to regain possession or create another faceoff to make a change, so you're looking at a group of guys playing a hard man pressure to try to create a turnover and a clear to a dump-in when they may not be the best equipped to do that. Those are the sort of situations that lead to scoring chances and penalties taken. Meanwhile, a faceoff win lets them hold the puck for a while, get the matchup they want, and spend that first 20 seconds after the drop in no real jeopardy.
The draws between the bluelines are pretty much irrelevant as the winner still has to gain the zone to really create some pressure.
So, apropos the thread topic, I don't really need to see any faceoffs unless they're inside the offensive zone.
