“I give Danny Taylor tons of credit for going from a guy who didn’t have a place to play at the start of the season to a guy with a hot hand,” Morris said. “It’s a credit to him. He’s studied his position hard.”
Taylor has little choice. The unfolding chapters of his personal self-help guide are becoming real page-turners. How it ends is up to him.
“I don’t take it personally. I understand the business,” he said. “I think every goalie gets their chance in pro hockey. It’s what you do with that opportunity that dictates your career.”
Credit to DT and AM for picking this guy. But I think this is further evidence of a problem with the DT era... they made some great picks, but their developmental system, for the most part, sucked. Cammalleri is the only player I can think of who has played well as a net result of developing within DT's system. Everyone else developed overseas/elsewhere, or started taking off under DL's watch (i.e. Dustin Brown).

Does it say anything better of Lombawford and crew that he didn't play a minute of hockey in the AHL or ECHL until Ersberg, Cloutier, LaBarbera and Aubin were all hurt simultaneously?

I'm not exactly sure of their reasoning... my guess (or RBS - Rampant Baseless Speculation) is that because they asked Danny Taylor to change his style and positioning, they wanted him to get used to it before throwing him to the wolves.
But my bigger point is that Cammalleri, as much as I bash on him, is really the only success story of the DT developmental era. Frolov and Kopitar developed overseas, and Brown turned his game around, being a more complete player, after the influence of Lombawford. Is there really any other draft pick made by DT that we could consider a success story, in his tenure here?

The fact that he was pretty much horrible last year probably had something to do with it. Nothing Taylor did last year in the ECHL justified him starting in Manchester or Reading this season.
Credit to the guy for seemingly turning it around, but this could just be a stretch of hot play. Remember Brian Boucher had a pretty nice stretch of games in the NHL and I don't think he's doing much of anything right now.
Tambellini would be a 7 time all-star by now if Lombawford got his hands on him. I don't care if he's only 23. And that's not RBS, that's fact
Well, it's still something of a curiosity to me how one guy (Cammalleri) is slower, shorter, and not as good on the ice as the other guy (Tambellini) coming from the same program (Michigan) and clearly exceeds him after that. It really reeks of development, and while our system seemed to have stank, the Islanders don't appear to have developed players too well either in recent years, with a lot of their young guys finding success later and, often, after moving on to other teams. Can't help but think that Tambellini could use a change of scenery.
