If the Kings' Rob Blake wasn't so good, this wouldn't be so awkward.
Blake, the club's aging captain, has to go. He is still one of the top four players in franchise history and his Hall of Fame credentials are unquestioned. He is a stand-up guy.
But the team is going to miss the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year. His best contribution right now would come from leaving, with the club getting a couple of draft picks before the Feb. 26 trade deadline.
What makes this obvious isn't just the team's horrible record.
When asked recently if he had lost his drive, Blake responded, "Well ..."
Deano, pick up the phone and ship his ass to Boston, Pittsburgh, Montreal, or Minnesota. All of these teams have a few nice prospects for you to choose from and could very well be a Rob Blake away from making a Cup run. Come on big guy, I know you've got it in you.
P.S. See what they'd be willing to give for Cammy while you're at it...you know, just in case.
writer Matt McHale is even more impatient than most of us, with the way he ends the article:
"We'll remember him fondly but he has to go. Now"
Geez, even I can wait until February 26th for thr best return!
However, this might become quite a distraction and I can see Dean moving him sooner - much sooner.
Looking back last year, Conroy was dealt in the last week of January and Avery the first week of February.
However, a distraction might make the Kings more firmly entrenched in #30, making Stamkos OR Doughty a guarantee!
