Find it Kind of Odd there have yet to be any trades today? Last season no less then 6 deals made the day before the deadline and 2 deals made 2 days previous; as of so far weve got nada on the trade front. Will this be the first year in which we see limited movement or simply the calm before the storm?
I'd like to think it's because most teams know that no matter what rental player they add the chances of them beating a team like Ottawa or Anaheim aren't good enough to justify trading away picks or prospects given that there is so much parity in the league now and that youth is more important than ever thanks to the lowered UFA age...
but I'll probably be proven wrong when there are a thousand and one trades tomorrow.
It is too bad. The NHL was the last pro sport to actually create a ton of buzz off the trade deadline. Now with the new NHLPA, it seems that GM's and teams are more tied to contracts than players.
If they would institute the plan Burke had to allow teams to carry traded players salary, that may open it up some. But until then, I feel that the trade deadline will soon just be a a regular day.
Calm before the storm. When Richards/Hossa/etc. gets moved it'll start. Deano is waiting for the big names to move and we all know what happens next (teams become desperate and start overpaying for marginal talent).

The GMs that are in contention are trying to be coy, but as soon as one of them pulls the trigger (and you know one will) the rest of them will panic and trades will be made.

True - just like in free agency. Nothing happened until Briere, Drury and the big names signed and then within a few days there were pictures of Handzus / Calder / Preissing / Nagy and then Stuart plastered on the front page of lakings.com
but this time, it's the other GM's who are waiting to see if their offers for Hossa / Jokinen, etc were enough and then they'll be calling Dean.
