First of all, I think that Stamkos is a great player. I would be pretty darn happy if the Kings were able to draft him. However, we do really need some D and if we are not I would be equally happy with either Doughty or Pietrangelo as our pick. I would say, I would prefer Pietrangelo over Doughty though.
Anyway, my question for you is this.
If we do draft Stamkos over one of the top 2 D-men, where do you see Stamkos' position on this team? From most of what I have seen here on this site, guys are looking at Stamkos as our #2 center. I disagree with that. Now, I really like Kopitar, but from what I have seen and read about Stamkos I would have to relegate Kopitar to 2nd line center. (No, I'm not talking about day one here.)
I'm just wondering what others think of Stamkos in regards to being the future "Leader" of this team.
I think people put way too much weight on labels. Ya Stamkos might be a number 1 center. But when? And does that mean you replace Kopitar with him? I dont think so. Kopitar stays with Brown and Sully for now. Stamkos would play with Fro and Cammy. Or maybe you switch Fro and Sully. But either way you keep Kopitar with Brown. So what label is that? See it doesnt matter because Frolov is on our "second line" but he is putting up first line numbers and minutes. I think there is only one labeled line and that is the fourth line, although with Crow sometimes you get Ivanas or someone playing with Kopitar.
And finally, why dont we draft him before we pencil him in the number 1 center role.
Once he's broken in, Stamkos would play with guys like Frolov and Purcell, passing puck-possession wingers. He's a scorer primarily, and a passer secondarily.
What you choose to call that line, it doesn't matter. Frolov is the team's best winger but arguably isn't on the "first" line most of the time, if you define that as the line Kopitar is centering. And depending on the situation, the alignment of the stars, etc. Crawford is going to shuffle things anyway.

Would it be wise to move Stamkos to the wing so he could play with Kopitar and Brown? Boyle could then center Frolov and cammy. Also sully would get paired with Handzus; which I think works as a great stopper line, that can score.

Stamkos greatest value is at center. 2nd line center is one of the Kings needs and their greatest surplus are at the wing positions. Boyle is not going to be 2nd line, most likely 4th line. Sully will be moved around but he belongs on the top 2 lines.
