However, Stamkos and Doughty are going 1 and 2 on draft day.
Both of these guys are game breaking players and will be stars in the NHL.
If the Kings are not picking #1 or #2, they will star for another team.
I don't have a problem if the Kings end up somewhere in the top 5 and get Bogosian, Pietrangelo, or Schenn. But I'd much rather end up #1 or #2 and get Stamkos or Doughty.
The Kings need a legit #2 center and a top 2 defenseman.
Both of these guys fit the bill. If we end up winning one too many games and miss out on Stamkos and Doughty, it will be a travesty.

Ya know, if one or two of our FA signings actually worked out, or we swung a meaningful trade... There are other ways to upgrade the roster that don't involve a terrible 82 game season.

Well my first King game was 1972, so waiting out another few months of losses is painless.
Put it this way; if I could buy an insurance policy right now, that guaranteed that the Kings would be drafting #1 or #2 overall, I would pay $1,000.00 for that insurance right now.
Dean has done 2 very meaningfull trades.
O'Sullivan and Trevor Lewis for Demitra
and
Johnson for Gleason and Belanger.

We are not far away from being a playoff team. With replacing Stuart with a solid defensive d-man, and with Cammalleri back in action, and JLB as hot as he is now...Not bad at all I'd say...of course this is just the speculation. I just want to say that the graph Shemp made doesn't look too steep at all...but we'll see.
But the last thing I'd like to see is that DL keeps Stuart, Blake and Nagy for this year's sake.
I don't WANT to lose. FAR from that. It's really really really good to see all these sexy parties and all...
AND...
This season is over. It's over because this team is in the process of getting younger, and is therefore more inconsistent. It's over because in the first quarter of the season, this team was gelling together. This season is over because 2 of our (supposed) key players were playing more than half of the games under influence of the injuries they had. It's over, because 3 experienced defensemen somehow don't play like they could and should. It's over because we don't have a real checking line (YET). It's over because injury snapped a good form of our #1 goalie and because our backup is not really a solid goalie. And so on...
And it's not over because DL/MC/AEG told the players to lose, and it's not over because our players want to lose.
Period.
No one WANTS this team to lose intentionally. But this team cannot get into playoffs realisticaly, and that's why loses shouldn't be taken too seriously. Next year, it must be different. Next year, if we are still in the bottom 5, I will be raging like a mad man...

We can press that shiny red "Panic" button next season...it won't help us this season anyway, and I'm pretty positive that DL didn't intend to press it after second losing season. I sure hope he does if we are still a major suckage next season.
