I think Anze would have done better in the shoot out elimination or the free style comp. than the fastest skater comp. Anybody know how this is done???
I think that the freestyle competition will get better if they keep it (and I hope they do), but send a memo to Nabokov that the goalies shouldn't be allowed to leave the crease and poke check. Everything else that was new sucked. I want to see the old relay comp and the new speed comp was horrible. All in all, the production values were terrible and I don't think that the whole thing was the showcase that the NHL wanted or desperately needed. Like Phaneuf in the slap shot competition, or Datsyuk in the deeks, this was less than impressive.
The production crew was infact horrible, and the breakout out contest will improve over time just like the slam dunk competition.
I think they could and should improve the fastest skater competition in the style of Olympic speed skating where you have two lanes side by side, each lane has one skater and half way through the race you switch lanes
Overall I was disappointed with the skills competition and the young guns game this year. Most of the new additions/changes were really lame and there seemed to be a lot of technical glitches in the production to top it all off.
I really like the idea of the free style shoot out thing they did at the end, but the players need to be more creative! Hopefully they do keep it for next year though, cause like others have said, it should improve as more players get a feel for it.
I was pretty damn disappointed in the skills competition. The breakaway thing at the end could have been cool if all the players understood what they were allowed to do and Nabakov stayed in the ****ing net.
The 3 on 3 Young Stars game wasn't very good either. It was OK, but I liked last years a lot more. It didn't help that the dumbasses at Versus were showing replays while play was still in progress either. Also, I never want to see 5 minutes of 3 on 3 after overtime, that would suck ass.
