The Score (Canadian Sports TV Network) has a call-in radio show on XM Radio which they simultaneously broadcast on both network TV and satellite radio. Anyway, today a Blues fan from London, Ontario called in and said how Andy Murray was one of the top coaches in the NHL. Obviously, everyone here has their own perspective on that one. Therefore, that is not part of the discussion that I wish to commence.
The caller then stated the Blues need more scoring for their run and he was looking to LA for help. He then suggested the Blues trade Christian Backman to LA for Dustin Brown. Straight up. His motive was that Backman is going to be a UFA in the summer anyway and Dustin Brown might be able to provide some help up front. Prior to such a suggestion, the man called himself a hockey history guru. It's too bad his guru is in the past because he certainly didn't realize his head is so far up his ass on this one. Wow.
As soon as he made the proposal, Steve Kouleis (I probably spelled it wrong) had his very own jaw drop. He couldn't believe such a ludacris offer. Right there, I wanted to jump through the television, then through the phone lines and then punch that dipstick right in the face. I couldn't believe it. Brown for Backman? Not to mention that Brown just signed a six-year extension.
To follow it up, Kouleis also said that Brown is going to be part of the next cornerstone of hockey and how he will be one of the brightest players in the game within the next few years. High praise!
Sorry, it's an off-day, so I just had to bring this absurdity to everyone's attention. It's a shame stuff like this goes on at hfboards.com, but to have it mentioned on national TV and radio all over North America? Wowzers.

Fine, why not just throw in a bag of pucks and the fillings out of my teeth too!!
Backman is signed through next year, so it's not quite as bad a picture as you paint.
However, if that trade makes sense to him, I wonder if he'd take Dahlman straight up for Lee Stempniak.
Not as bad as I think? Compare the statistics between the two. The trade suggestion is a farce no matter if Backman is signed through next year or not.... Although the called mentioned that he wanted to trade Backman for Brown because he (Backman) is going to be a UFA "next year" and would rather get something fro him now. A player who has 64 points in 226 games for Brown... A possible future cornerstone face of hockey (as Kouleis put it). Terrible.
The days of the other teams ripping the Kings off are over. We all know Dean is not interested in trading Brown, Johnson, and Kopitar. All trade proposals including those three are brushed aside. This one is laughable.
