The King's plethora of later round picks needs to be cashed in to target higher level prospects (Mid level prospects is not something the Kings need more of). The King's 3 second round picks in the upcoming draft should be able to net a 1st rounder in the 12-16 range, considering the Kings 2nd pick will be in the low 30's.
That would give the Kings 3 first round picks, and no 2nd rounders. Of course first round picks are almost as hit or miss as later picks are, but I'm sure D.L. has his radar on a few guys who might have top ten potential that will slip to that range.
Schenn is a guy who could end up going around 15 b.c he is about the 4th or 5th ranked dman on most lists, and some teams will go for forwards before him, even if they are ranked slightly lower.
Plenty of teams would use these 3 picks to build on organizational depth instead of risking it on one player. Of course to counter my arguement, one could say that it is more likely to score a decent NHLer with one of the 3 2nd's as opposed to the one 1st...hmmmmm
peace
Staaaaaaaaaaaaa (oops I promised to never do that again)
its hard to say trade for a 1st rounder when all i keep hearing is that this years draft is DEEEEEEEPPPPP.../......makes you wonder if DL will trade the 1st the Kings got for a lower teams 1st and them some

I dont see DL trading the Kings first. The draft may be deep but Doughty or Stamkos is impossible to pass up. If the Kings end up with the 3rd pick somehow this board will blow up. Ala, missing out on Turris last year.
2 2nd's can actually get a late round first (Picks 18>)
right, but for example DL will rank his top ten prospects and beyond, according to him and his scouts. It's guaranteed that one of these top ten talents will slip to the 14/15/16 range and they could then snag him with the 3 picks. I dont think the kings 2nd and then only ONE of there late 2nd will get them into the 12-15 range.
You can't always look toward the 1st round for the answer because those guys are the skilled guys but its always a big risk to trade 3 2nd rounders for a 1st round 14-16 player..........a good GM will always try to find that one player that can fit into any situation....that diamond in the rough. Don't be surprised if the Kings don't land anywhere on the board to get a top 3 player cause its not automatic, its just chance (ask Chicago) so if you wind up lower than expected and DL can get a great deal for his position.....he might pull the trigger.....
thats all i'm saying............teams do trade down in order to get the most outta a draft

Doesn't the term "deep draft" mean that there are MANY good players available? If so, recognizing that any draft is still a crap-shoot, I think it makes much more sense to keep those 2nd round picks and maximize our chances of getting NHL-caliber players.
Why trade up to the late first round and draft someone like Tambellini (27th) when you can get players like this in the second: Patrice Bergeron (45), Shea Weber (49), Patrick O'Sullivan (56).
The Kings dont exactly have a great track record with their first round picks. Can only think of three in the last 20 years that have panned out: Frolov, Brown and Kopitar. OK...four if you count Jokinen.
Oh by the way, can anyone guess who went after Tambellini at #28 and to whom? Ouch.
