Seriously, I don't mind having Blake on this team as much as a lot of people on this board do, but if he's saying that he's sticking around to help the team grow and prosper, then he better put his money where his mouth is.
I'm not sure if I would really call Selanne loyal. The guy leaves Anaheim to go to San Jose, San Jose can't win a cup so he goes to Colorado with his boyfriend Kariya. They can't do crap there. Oh wait, Anaheim is good again, lets go back there.
Wins the cup sits out 3/4 of the year to see how good the team does then decides maybe I can win again lets sign and work for 3 months. Is that Loyal?
One or more of Kalinin/Rozsival/Commodore/Vandermeer for 3/10?
I wouldn't mind seeing Ron Hainsey added to your nice list there. He seems to be holding up pretty well, while playing for a fairly demanding coach in Ken Hitchcock.
I'm a little leery of Vandermeer given how quickly Philadelphia gave up on him and how a lot of their fans seemed to celebrate when he was finally shipped off to Calgary.
A veteran defenseman that's been getting scratched with Calgary is Rhett Warrener and he might also be someone to consider. When he was paired up with Jay McKee in Buffalo they made a solid defensive tandem with good success in the playoffs.
who cares if Blake gets paid 3 million or 5 million? We are not going to be in cap trouble next year.
I actually think Kings might be a lot closer to the cap then we might think at the moment. What number did you have in mind?

Downtime, first I will say that I would like to see Blake around here next season. No matter what people think, he DOES have reputatioon in the league and in the lockerroom. I liked gescom's post regarding this subject and I agree with him. However the things in the league have changed and DL will have to adapt. In some way he has starting adpating with the last extension Brown has received, but he has a long way to go. Starting with 30+years players being overpayed. I'd give Blake 2.5-3M and he deserves them for the leadership qualities that young players obviously see in him. If Blake stays healthy he is actually deserving the money for what he brings to the game. But I really believe that he can't ask for 4M here, if he is serious about the Kings love this late in his career.
