I have attended or watched damn near every Duck game for the past 12 plus years and I can't remember 10% of the minutia that these two are masters of. I don't know if it's bad memory or what but as time goes by this stuff just leaves my head.

bravo gentlemen
I would want to forget all the Ducks games of the past 12 years save 06-07 if i were you as well.

...on a related note, i would like to forget most of the Kings games from the last 12 years... can i have some of what you're smoking?

I think it's just getting old. hehe I don't remember stuff as well as I used to, at least not well enough to reconstruct a season from the freaking early 90s.

Individual games, experiences are one thing. I just can't help but wonder if they recall all of this naturally or did they go ultra geek and keep hockey journals or something.

IMO, either the 74-75 team or the 90-91 team were the best Kings' teams. I realize the 93 team went farther in the playoffs and gets a mention but overall it's not just the playoff run that defines a "best team". Again, that's just my opinion. Other notable Kings teams: 80-81 (like you said), and 01-02.

The 75 team got somewhat unlucky as that had to play in a "suicide" 3 game series. That team easily gets the semis (probably losing to the Flyers) if they beat Toronto. The 91 team really need a JS Gigurere-like effort from Hrudey that they didn't get. They lost 3 OT games to Edmonton in round 2. I think that teams gets to a finals with Pittsburgh (the "dream" final of Gretz vs. Mario...unfortunately never happened).

Just my thoughts.

The presence of the greatest hockey player in the world grew hockey in the states. For that reason Gretzky should have a statue in every city with an expansion team since his coming to LA. And there is no way in h-e double hockey sticks that the LA pre-Gretzky teams do anything close to the Gretzky era teams.

You can't compare Howe and Orr with Gretzky. That's comparing apples and oranges. Its like comparing Sawchuk and Brodeur.

I understand you're hate. People love to hate the best. Just like people hate A-Rod in baseball.
No I hate his arrogant view of him being better than everyone. Di he have skills on the ice, yes that is undeniable. However, he was a primadonna prissy pants who had little class and should be happy that people forget about this. It is a shame that he has to be mentioned in the same sentence as classy players like Messier, Lemieux, and Yzerman who were all in his era. Along with this add Ron Francis and you have a list of people that Gretzky could learn from. Gretzky is a cheap hack and that is it. I would love to see an almost 80 year old Howe teach Sir Schnozzalot a lesson with the famous elbow

My memory could be failing me, but didn't he used to wear those Philadelphia Flyers-style Cooperalls with long pants? Those drove me nuts. Oh, and his hair flapping in the wind. Also, didn't he play in that roller hockey league in the 90s where all the games were played at Universal Studios Florida with the interlocking plastic squares for a rink? He shall be my army of one on what should be a top ten list. I'm done whining now.
Huh? Duguay wasn't even close to a great player with the Kings but top ten on the hate list? Why all the hate? While on the ice Duguay wore standard NHL attire. Off the ice Duguay got paid to wear Sasoon designer jeans. Yes, that's pretty geigh, but not a reason to hate. Yes, he did skate with his hair hair flapping in the wind, but I'm not sure why that would be a problem either. I know big, bald biker types that hate the helmet law for the kind of the same reason. Yes, Duguay could have been the first metro-sexual hockey player in the history of the league but c'mon, he came up with the Rangers in the Studio 54 disco heyday, and he married Kim Alexis, so whaddaya expect, he was just a product of his environment. I remember when he was out of the line up with a concussion, due to not wearing a helmet of course. Prime Ticket had him up in the booth for the Ask a King segment. The question was, of course, "Why don't you wear a helmet?" He answered something like, "I like to feel the wind in my hair, and I don't look good in a helmet." He then put on a helmet to prove his point and he was right. It was a complete transformation. I swear to god, he looked like monkey boy. I just think that your judgment may be a little impaired due to the memories of all the screaming female fans throughout the forum every time Duguay touched the puck. Fortunately for me my girlfriend at the time liked Duguay, but she loved Marty McSorley, so I was spared some of the screaming. And yes, I'm a little biased, he was fun to watch, he skated on an "energy" line before there were "energy" lines, had a great poke check, (no pun intended), and he moved to San Diego about the same time as I did and played for my San Diego Gulls, so there ya go. Karma for ya for actually remembering him, although we don't share the same reasons for doing so.

Holy jesus, jerry and meoseph, I just wrote a short essay on Ron effen Duguay. I have got to get another job...

You know, that's funny you mention Messier as classy and Gretzky as not -- Messier specifically mentioned that during the early 80's and the era of the "Baby Oilers" that Gretzky was far more mature and advanced when it came to professionalism and knowing what to say to the media and the fans, as well as how to stay out of trouble. Messier was a young bull when he came up in the WHA and then after the merger with the Oilers. Mark was inconsistent, he was prone to moments of being out of control, and he needed leadership and direction. There was a reason why Gretzky was given the C before Messier was, not really because of character, but because Gretzky was more disciplined as a person and set a better example with game preparation, practices, etc.

And you talk about Howe and Orr being REAL hockey players. I'm wondering, were you a fan in that era? Are you old enough to remember those guys? Because if you're not, then you're complaining because hockey today doesn't fit what you think it should be, based on guys you don't even remember. And I'll tell you right now -- there were guys who didn't fight, weren't dirty, had skills, and were all about what Hockey was and should be today -- Goring, Bossy, Dionne, Kurri, Gil Perreault, Lafleur, and yes, Gretzky ... these guys weren't known for being tough guys physically, but they were tough mentally, and so skilled that they didn't let their size become a hindrance. It's easy to be tough when you're Gordie Howe or Mark Messier, and you're coming into the game with a God-given size of 6'1" and 210 of solid muscle. In fact, you want to know who I think the toughest player of all time was? Theoren Fleury. At that guy's size, with the memory of what he had to go through on the way up (playing for Graham James ... if you don't know who he is, look him up sometime and you'll see what I mean), and then to play and not only hold his own, but to become a star, among the giants of the NHL at all of 5'6" and 165 is AMAZING.

1) Marty McSorley - How the F*** can you be playing with an illegal stick with less than 5 minutes to go in a game you're winning in the finals?!?
2) Wayne Gretzky (for quitting on the team, all the great things he did in LA nonwithstanding)
3) Jason Allison (see above without the positive second part)
4) Dan Quinn (for just being a dick)
5) Jamie Storr (for being so strong between the pipes and yet so weak between the ears)
6) Craig "Is that your head or a soccer ball" Johnson
7) Dennis Tsygurov
8) Roman Vopat
9) Jere Karalhati (for wasting so damn much talent)
10) Adam Deadmarsh (Not because I don't like him but why, why, why did you have to get hurt when you could have been the heart and soul of the team for a decade?)

Addendum - In light of #10 on the list, I wish to nominate Craig Johnson for #'s 1-9
