Ducks goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere and right wing Teemu Selanne had the exact same reaction when they walked into the club’s Anaheim Ice locker room minutes apart after a lengthy Tuesday practice session in preparation for Thursday night’s Stanley Cup playoff opener against the Dallas Stars at Honda Center.
“Must be the playoffs,” each player said when he came upon the media horde armed with cameras, microphones and, oh yes, pens and notebooks.
Indeed, the gathering that even included representatives from a couple of Southern California television stations marked quite a contrast to the regular crew of reporters that covers the Ducks all season long. Depending on whether the team is on the road or at home, that number varies between two and maybe five or six.
