No surprises at the morning skate, at least as far as I could tell. Christian Ehrhoff still wasn’t skating, and Ryane Clowe was out there on the same line as yesterday with Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski.
So let me relay a couple Joe Thornton moments. And I’ll bury the lead (newspaper jargon for NOT using the best material at the top) intentionally, saving the most intriguing item until the end.
Predictably, Thornton was the center of much Canadian TV and print media attention, and one reporter asked him about the paticulars of the schedule for this first-round series against Calgary, opening today with back-to-back games.
“I wanted to play yesterday,” Thornton said. “I don’t know about Washington - they’ve got to wait until Friday. I’d rather bang two out right away and get the playoff jitters out of the way. Nobody’s flying anywhere, nobody’s catching anybody on jet lag. I think it’s exciting.”
