The Dallas Stars announced today that the National Hockey League club has signed left wing Jamie Benn to a three-year entry level contract.
Benn, 18, was drafted by the Stars in the fifth round (129th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He played this past season with Kelowna of the Western Hockey League (WHL), leading the team in goals with 33 while adding 32 assists for 65 points in 51 games (averaging 1.27 points-per-game). Benn led the Rockets in power play goals with 15 and also in plus/minus with a +32 rating. He added three goals and 11 points in seven playoff games.
“We’re very excited to sign Jamie to an entry level contract,” said Stars co-General Manager Les Jackson. “Jamie is a talented hockey player with a solid work ethic and we will continue to work with him as he develops as a player to hopefully play one day for the Dallas Stars at the NHL level. He has a bright future ahead of him.”
