In the days leading up to the Thursday’
s game against the Dallas Stars, the Ducks said they must show discipline and stay out of the penalty box if they had any chance of beating their rival in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Well, if the first period Thursday at Honda Center is any sign of what is to come for the Ducks, they could be in for an early exit from the post season as the Stars scored four power play goals to easily skate past the Ducks in Game 1 of the best-of-seven series.
Steve Ott and Loui Ericksson scored for the Stars in the opening period. And Jere Lehtinen and Brenden Morrow extended the Stars’ lead in the second.
It was the fourth shutout for Stars goaltender Marty Turco in 30 playoff games, giving him a 12-18 record during the postseason. It was the first time, however, that he has held the Ducks scoreless.
