PRICE, JAGR, AND HUET NAMED NHL 'THREE STARS' OF THE WEEK
NEW YORK (March 24, 2008) – Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price, New York Rangers right wing Jaromir Jagr, and Washington Capitals goaltender Cristobal Huet have been named the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending April 6.
FIRST STAR – CAREY PRICE, G, MONTREAL CANADIENS
Price posted a 3-0-0 record with a 0.67 goals-against average, .977 save percentage and one shutout as the Canadiens (47-25-10, 104 points) finished first overall in the Eastern Conference. He stopped all 32 shots in posting his third shutout of the season, a 3-0 win over the Ottawa Senators Apr. 1. On Apr. 3, he stopped 27 of 28 shots in a 3-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres and closed the week with a 26-save effort in a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs, Apr. 5. Price has posted a record of 24-12-3 with a 2.56 goals-against average, .920 save percentage and three shutouts in 41 appearances this season.
SECOND STAR – JAROMIR JAGR, RW, NEW YORK RANGERS
Jagr led all scorers with seven points (five goals, two assists) in four games as the Rangers (42-27-13, 97 points) finished as the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. Jagr notched one goal and one assist in a 2-1 overtime victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins Mar. 31. On Apr. 3, Jagr fired two goals, including the game-winner in a 3-0 win over the New York Islanders. In the return match with the Islanders Apr. 4, he recorded one goal and one assist in a 4-3 overtime loss and he closed the week by notching one goal in a 3-2 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils, Apr. 6. Playing in all 82 games, Jagr led the Rangers in scoring with 71 points (25-46--71) a total which moved him into ninth place on the all-time points list with 1,599.
THIRD STAR – CRISTOBAL HUET, G, WASHINGTON CAPITALS
Huet posted a 3-0-0 record with a 1.00 goals-against average and .955 save percentage as the Capitals (43-31-8, 94 points) finished first in the Southeast Division and made the playoffs for the first time in four seasons. He stopped 21 of 22 shots in a 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, Apr. 1. On Apr. 3, he made 18 saves in a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning and closed the week with a 25-save effort in a 3-1 victory over the Florida Panthers, Apr. 5. Since being traded to Washington from Montreal at the deadline, Huet has appeared in 13 games, posting a record of 11-2-0 with a 1.63 goals-against average, .936 save percentage and two shutouts.
