NHL awards voting deadline nears

Among the most difficult choices facing voters was for all-star goalies, where iron men Evgeni Nabokov of the San Jose Sharks and Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils are obvious candidates, but Jean-Sebastien Giguere of the Ducks deserves serious consideration, as well.

The Ducks’ best opportunity for a trophy winner is probably center Samuel Pahlsson in the Selke race. Pahlsson’s minus-2 rating and the fact he missed 26 games because of injuries won’t help him, but he did his usual superlative job playing against opposing top forwards, and anyone who remembers his playoff performance last season might vote for him by default.
