There’s no question about the Sharks intentions to gain a split when their Western Conference Quarterfinal series against Calgary continues with Game Two tonight at HP Pavilion.
Of course, this is a best-of-seven game series. One game doesn’t decide a series.
“There’s no need to get frustrated,” veteran center Jeremy Roenick said. “I’ve lost a lot of Game Ones and won the series. It’s a strong group and the series isn’t won or lost on one game.”
The Sharks did just that in 2006. The No. 5-seeded Sharks lost the first game of their quarterfinal series vs. No. 4 Nashville, but went on to take the next four games and the series.
“We want to go to Calgary in a tie,” defenseman Kyle McLaren said. “We don’t want to be down 0-2.”
Last night’s Game One was as close as the final 3-2 score indicates. In fact, two of Calgary’s goals went to video review. Although the right call was made, those tallies could’ve been recalled. And another goal came on the power play following Kristin Huselius’ embellishment after coming in contact with McLaren.
“We made a few mistakes that ended up in the net,” said McLaren. “In the playoffs, good teams will take advantage.”
