By the very nature of his job description, Ducks coach Randy Carlyle is “always nervous,” as he pointed out following the club’s optional morning skate Saturday at Honda Center. Still, Carlyle has legitimate reason for optimism as the Ducks prepare for Saturday night’s key second game of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Dallas Stars.
In the wake of Thursday’s distressing 4-0 loss, the Ducks must either win Saturday or face the daunting prospect of staring at a 2-0 series deficit en route to Dallas, where Games 3 and 4 are set for Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
“I know the character of our group,” Carlyle said. “I know that our veterans and the people in that room have been in this situation before. We’ll do our best to correct the way we played the other night, but we have to live it. We’ve talked about it enough.”
While there was no confirmation from Carlyle, logic would suggest that Ducks center Doug Weight would return to the lineup after having been a healthy scratch in two of the final three regular-season games, as well as Thursday. Certainly, more veteran savvy and the potential for offense would be welcomed.
