Ducks eager to open playoffs

We’ve all heard countless times how it is dangerous for any sports team to bank on turning on emotion and performance like the flip of a switch. With that in mind, it will be particularly intriguing to watch the defending Stanley Cup champion Ducks as they pursue a second consecutive NHL title.
There is a palpable sense among the Ducks that everything that has occurred up to now has been nothing but a preliminary for the playoffs, which begin at 7 p.m. Thursday when they open a Western Conference quarterfinal series against the Pacific Division rival Dallas Stars at Honda Center.
From the time they reported to training camp Sept. 10, or at least most of them did, and from the time they played a two-game set against the Kings in London in late September, the Ducks have battled their way through the necessary evils of practices and regular-season games with one thought in mind. The only thing that really mattered was getting to the playoffs, when the true test would come.
