BRETT HULL
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. What did you learn, not just on the ice, but in Detroit?
BRETT HULL: Yeah, a lot. The respect and atmosphere that Kenny and the rest of the staff gave to the family, the players gave them or gave them all the benefits and ability. That's how you have to treat the players. You treat them like men and adults and show them the respect they deserve. And they'll go out and they'll play for you.
Q. What's impressed you about your team through these first two rounds?
BRETT HULL: There's never been one ounce of quit in them. They've given it everything they've had from the opening whistle to the final buzzer. And that's not always easy to do. Even, you know, when you know so much is on the line. The leadership from every guy, from Mike Modano right down to our goalie has been phenomenal.
Q. Can you talk about how Brenden's game is growing since he became captain last year? What's he meant to this team?
BRETT HULL: Well, I think it's way before that when he first came in, in 2000. He's steadily learned the game. I think when he got the captain thrust upon him last year, especially when he came from a good friend of his, Mike Modano, he knew that it was something special, and he was going to take it and go with it. He did that and I think it helped him become a more complete player.
He's a great leader, he's a dynamic player, and he's a work horse out there like none I've seen.
Q. When you see a game like the one the other night, do you have memories of '99 watching that?
BRETT HULL: No, what I was watching, it's just so nerve?racking, you know, from the chances you get to the chances they get. Until that one went in, it's much easier to play than to watch, trust me.
Q. When the team decided to be in this hotel, the casino, were you scared at once maybe leaving the players by themselves here?
BRETT HULL: None whatsoever. These guys are ?? the game's changed. Back when I played maybe a little bit you'd be nervous.
Q. That's why I'm asking?
BRETT HULL: These guys are the ultimate professionals. Their commitment to the game, to the fitness, to everything is second to none. I'm very proud of them, and I wouldn't have one bit of fear about these guys here.
Q. Have you been around here?
BRETT HULL: It's a beautiful place, and I know I have a beautiful room, so I'm not displeased.
Q. What is the confidence level for Marty right now?
BRETT HULL: I don't think it can get much higher. I hope it can, and I hope it does, but boy, he's played fantastic. He's proven that he's an elite goalie, and the things he does to help our defense as far as moving the puck, you don't really know how to put it into words the way it helps.
He's made some great stops, and that 61?save performance in Dallas the other night, you know, really solidifies who he is. |
