About This Page: This is a discussion on Hockey Players Forum within the LetsGoKings.com forums, at Los Angeles Kings Hockey Fan Forum. Please view the link below and give me your opinion on what is the best deal. Tanner (my son-16yrs old) will be using the skates primarily for street/park pick-up games.

I own a pair of Mission inlines (i don't remember which model right now) but i'm very pleased with them. I have also heard that Nike has some great skates too. The two I like so far are the Mission Wicked 7 and Nike Bauer XVR; both are $130.
how old is your son? If your son is say, 10 years old or less, why not just get recreation rollerblades? they are lighter, easier to put on, and in many cases come with better bearings for just pure speed. They'll prolly be a bit cheaper too...just be sure to get rid of the stoppers...
At the younger ages I don't think kids really need the durability/stiffness that come from roller hockey skates. but thats just my 2 cents!

He is 16 yrs. old and been skating for years now. He just wore out a cheap pair of Mission M5 I believe.

at 16 definitely want the hockey skates...just get something that fits well and is relatively light. my knock on roller hockey skates is that they are wayyyy too heavy.
As a dad for Xmas I would go with these (disclaimer buy these only if you have excessive disposable income)
I would not buy a $500.00 pair of skates for him to tear up on the street, or at the local park, even if I did have an excessive disposable income! Thanks for the suggestion though.....

Street pickup tears up skates and these are super durable for outdoor play. The toe cap is really durable. I use the Mega 50s for outdoor play. The price is unbeatable and a good all around skate:
For indoor play, I'd do with these (keeping it under $150). My Bauer Vapor ice skates are really comfortable and I'm thinking these are probably just as comfortable being an inline skate:

I have both ice and inline Vapors and can vouch that for me they are very comfy skates that perform well enough to get me around a rink.
i am a big fan of mission skates, roller and ice. they're not overly expensive, and they take a hell of a beating. bauer and ccm have let me down durability-wise on roller.

Thanks all. Got an awesome deal on HockeyGiant.com. Went with AngyKing's advice and bought the Nike/Bauer for $79.99. Went ahead and purchased an extra set of wheels, Labeda Asphalt, another Kings jersey, and a skate tool. Had to spend that hundred and fitty to get the free shipping. Received the order in two flipping days. I am stoked! Thanks again peeps.

I have the mission wicked 7s.. I get them awhile ago on sale for $150 from hg.. so being cheaper is a plus. They are fine for what I do which is just skating at the park and shooting around at the outdoor rink. I'm a ice guy, but I wanted to get something so I could mess around with and these satisfy that job. If I was serious about roller and were to join a league, I might go with something higher in the food chain.
