Its a great stick, Louisville Adrenaline, but while I do like the stickiness at the top near the handle (i use nearly zero tape) I really feel like the stickiness at the shaft catches my glove too often cuz it got too much grip.
Any ideas on how to reduce the grippiness of the shaft area?
I still think it's absurd to use anything other than a wooden stick unless you're a Bantam AA or better player with a real future in the game.
Wooden laminated sticks are $30, better balanced and low-friction for better stickhandling, and almost as light as the $250 composites.

I agree... and they can take more abuse. You can get a nice gouge in a wooden stick and you will be fine. You get a small chip in a composite and that's all she wrote.

Hard to not agree, but I got this stick on sale at $99 the last few composites (also boght them at sale prices) lasted for just over a year or so.
My beef with woodies is that I can't find any place that sells them in any sort of quantitiy. I think there's more variation with the wood sticks and even if there weren't I probably wouldn't buy a stick I didn't actually handle with my own hands.
I live in Denver now and I'll be looking for a good place to find some sticks. I was a die-hard Northland guy and occasionally used a Jofa stick, bit I am super pickey about the sticks I use. I am planning to check out the Luisville wood sticks when I can find some that I actually can mess with myself.
If there were a good supply of woodies I'd probably have stuck with them.
BTW - thanks for the ideas guys I'll be working on my stick this weekend.
Id probably play with only wood if I could find one 63-65"s in length. Extensions on 60" sticks are not an option. If you know of a stick in that length range, send me a PM.
It also depends which brand you are using. I find that Easton puts so much glue on them you cannot control the slide or grip strength at all. I guess its not obvious to some that this is a wrist injury waiting to happen, especially if you come into contact with the boards or other player.
Warrior grip sticks tend to be much less sticky, I got used to mine very easily.
i've played the game for quite some time and i am going to have to say that wood sticks are horrific. i just got these new sherwood composites for free and they are great. VQ knows what im talkin about, but playing with wood sticks honestly doesn't benefit anyones game. and as far as the stickiness goes don't buy a stick with sticky grip on it!

Umm, no, it is not absurd. Woodies may be cheap, but they get as limp as a wet noodle after a few games while composites either do not lose stiffness at all, or very little. I also do not agree that woodies are better balanced, and I really don't know what this "low-friction" you are talking about is. Finally, my one-pieces (each of which I bought for the price of two or three woodies on ebay) have lasted me an average of a year each, which makes them not only better-performing, but more cost effective than woodies as well.

Whole heartedly agree with this statement. I been using a warrior dolomite and innovative 1100 tapered both have last me long times and totally worth the price.
other than sandpaper, i'm not sure how you're going to get rid of the grip on the shaft. i bought a grip shaft that i didn't like and i am just living with it until i get a new stick one day. but the way i'm going through sticks, it might take a few years. i've had my synergy for 3 years now and it's still as good as new. my two dolomites haven't given me any problems so far. that's what i love about composites.
oh yeah, you could try tacki mac grips and see if you like it. but it could be even grippier than you like.

me too
I'm 6'5" and its a bitch to find sticks that are long and don't need much of an addition.
Quick update - I opted for some scotchbrite instead of sandpaper. It was less abrasive and takes more work/time but seems to be giving me a better result. I can work the surface and degrade the friction of the crap they sprayed on. The stick still has a little grip and I want to check that out before I take it all off.
I was going to play with it today but I didn't get myself onto the list to play this morning. The rink takes phone-ins to save a spot starting at 8:30 and if you don't call by 8:45 your usually SOL. I got in late last night and forgot until 10 so maybe I'll try tonight at DU instead.
